The .50 cal revolution seems to be turning into the .50 cal fizzle.

I wonder how much money GIMilsim is actually pouring into this campaign to create demand.

I like how it correlates with the idea of creating artificial demand by releasing "new" guns every year. 68 caliber is to 50 caliber as the '08 shocker is to the '09. Thankfully the paintball world is smart enough to withstand this round of shenanigans.

Yeah I was flipping through the latest APG issue recently as well and was pretty disgusted with all the .50cal ads. It seemed like every other page was an add for it. I havn't picked up an APG for about a year because there has been less and less quality reading material and more and more adds. Now since all the adds are .50cal what a waste of time.

Well magazine sales are down too, so maybe they are just pissing advertising dollars away in a fashion, that generally won`t get read. Since when has APG been anything but a marketing whore for paintball companies? When you put lipstick on a pig it ends up serving you your wings and beer at Hooters anyway.......

Since .50 balls weight about half what a .68 weighs, you can increase the velocity significantly before anything becomes dangerous.

If you've been watching... Higher FPS is the key to .50 having an advantage. If paintball changes their standards to being based on joule rating, .50 will fly farther, more accurately and with a flatter trajectory... Just like they're promising.

But changing the FPS will create significant additional hassle at the fields, and people would be reluctant to adopt a new standard.

I do like the fact that 50 cal hurts less. I think that would help bring in new people to the sport. But other than that, nothing else about it looks good.

Another issue with 50 cal is that countries like Canada are going to flip over the caliber being the same as one that is used in actual firearms.

It's a good thing that Canada won't let it fly, it'll protect the .68 market

I was living under the impression that .50 cal has been dead for a while now... are they actually still trying this? Its like the duke nukem forever of paintball, except no one really wants it...
