Junk like this ticks me off to no end.

Kill Tennessee Traffic Cameras | Facebook

people are disgruntled with the speedcams. ill admit i dont like them. but their solution? spray them with paintballs. ive already gone off for them posting that up, i hate it when people use our sport for vandalism.

Where's your comment? I'd like to read it, and give you some backup if needed.

Edit: Actually, I found it.

it's actually more effective to throw a tire over the camera and fill it full of gasoline and light it on fire.
Thats what the English do.
Speed Cameras

You know, I don't think people would have such a problem with them if they just followed the law...

I have a problem with supplemental road taxes collected by machines, when I pay civil servants to collect them.

Weren't these determined to be 'unconstitutional' or what have you, since it doesn't prove who is actually driving the car?

I never heard of that, they are still being use here in San Diego. It was found to be unconstitutional because the control of the red light camera was being handle by the company (who need the profit), vs. a public agency like the city. So they change the contract to where the city run the red light, and the company get a pre-determine number of fees per camera.

It is the burden of the car owner to prove who was driving the car.

Great, so it's so much better to pay hundreds of thousands in taxes to fix and replace those cameras in addition to the cost of investigating each arson then just not speed.
Self rightious idiots, we all lose thanks to them.

I agree with you, but North American roads are designed for much higher speeds than what is allowed - which in turn encourages speeding. Something most traffic engineers (that I've talked to) acknowledge, but they see it as the local authorities' problem. Decision-makers don't seem to understand the connection and see it as a social problem instead.
