Some things to consider:

Paintballs slow tremendously fast. For example, a 300FPS shot drops down to 270 in only 15ft. The starting energy of such a shot is 9.2ftlbs and it drops to 7.4ftlbs in the same distance.

I don't know of any public testing data that has shown just how much force is transmitted into the head. Some of the impact force is lost when the paintball deforms and then ruptures, allowing the forward moving fill to deflect laterally. The lack of this rupture is what made Monsterball so nasty.

Something also to consider is that the OP may have forgotten to activate his necro powers.

LOL. Was thinking the same.....

But to continue to add to the thread's legacy...

I find it very hard to believe one can sustain a concussion playing paintball. I've been shot pretty hard in the head too.

Playing indoor, 15bps PSP ramping, 300 fps, I was shot roughly 9 or 10 times in the back of my head right off the break First thing I remember is the barrel smacking my head, followed by finding myself in my bunker with a headache. I was stunned, and it took me a second to to remember what exactly was going on. However, I was fine. Finished out the rest of the day no problems. No issues in the evening or the following day. Keep in mind this is roughly 10 shots with the barrel basically pressed into the back of my head. We chrono'd at 300fps.

The whole thread had taken a shot to the head and gone unconscious.

You do not have to have the energy to move the whole head to incur a concussion. There is a point energy that transfers through solid and liquid matter that can be very specific, and take the energy from the projectile and focus it in a small spot, then it moves in a wave until it dissipates. If I can get an energy wave to hit the right spot in your brain, even it was small, you may suffer a concussive event and symptoms thereof.
What people are experiencing are probably not true concussions, but a high enough amount of energy to create a wave that passes through the bone and disrupts brain activity.

How is that not a concussion? What energy resulting from impact DOESN'T create a wave that passes through the bone and disrupts brain activity? Or did an EM wave spontaneously form at impact and travel through and cook the brain?

What some of the people here are describing aren't concussions -- they're probably hits to nerve/pressure points as we've tried to indicate. There are such nerve clusters near the back of the jaw (mandibular nerve) and along the temple.

Again, nobody's going to attempt to actually revisit the math, huh?

That's because the number of people here who have an opinion on the matter far exceed the number of people who actually understand the fundamentals of the situation.

I've been concussed from paintball, it's definitely possible. took multiple shots at the same time to the head to do it (at point blank range), and it definitely ruined my day... not just a concussion but the bruising and swelling to add on top of it... yeouch.

If you know where it's at, why do you not do it?
