I played paintball back when I was a kid, 12+ years ago. Back then I had an Autococker, an Eclipse Mini-Mag (completely tricked out), a tricked out Tippmann 98 amongst other markers. I was a paintball nerd through and through. I ended up selling all my gear for money to pay rent and such.

I recently played paintball for a friends bachelor party and I fell back in love! However, times are different now. I'm almost 30 years old and now I own a house and have responsibilities and as we know paintball is expensive. I can't afford a marker that shoots 20 BPS (or as I say, 10 PPS, pennies per second). The only way I could get back into the sport and still keep my wife is to minimize the cost as much as possible so I decided that I will only ever own one more marker in my life and that is the CCI Phantom (w/45 grip and T-stock)

I'm still very new and to be honest I was never great at this sport as a kid (though I thought I was) but there is one thing I am completely addicted to. There is nothing more satisfying then being at a big disadvantage, having some kid spray $$$'s worth of paint at you with his/her $1000 marker - only to line up one clean shot and WHAM! take that kid out with a single shot or two. Playing pump is much more gratifying and a lot more fun if you ask me! And that's what it's all about, right?

THE-SHOOTIST Anyone chubbin' like me for this?
mailmanmike Since Monday! That's more than 4 hours though, so according to those cialis ads I should see my doctor.
tlane77 I think for a non-chemical chubby it's 6 hours before its time to see a doctor. So you should be good for another couple hours.
splattttttt I wasn't goin to google "chubbin" because I assumed it had to do with fat. The lard type, not the fun stuff. But what ever feelings Jeff's experiencing, then they must be of the fun like stuff...
tlane77 He's got a woody for your woods.

the only think better than the challenge of pumping it up in open play is pumping against other experienced pumpers. IMO: private pump games rule. add some hopperball and you'll have an inexpensive good old time.

Private pump games are the best. PLayed an all day private pump game one saturday in the woods and the next day in speedball a few months back with 20+ guys on saturday and a 3 man round robbin tourny on sunday with like 6 teams... Best experience I have ever had in my 9 years of paintball =D

I wish I could find enough people to do a private pump game.

Save your nickels and go to one of the big pump games, there are at least 3 per year with like 100+ players that show up

Even if its the only pump play you get the rest of the year there is a very good chance you will look back and say it was the best game all year

It takes a while and a bit of effort, but pumpers are out there.

One good way to "roll your own" is to take a spare sniper or phantom w/ you when you hit your regular fields, and when folks ask about pump play offer to let them take your loaner for a test drive. In my experience about half the players that try pump end up going pump.. especially once they do the $math.

Another "roll your own" technique is to gather a few decent pumpers and challenge everyone else in open class play. (aka "a pump players challenge"). Everyone is generally impressed w/ the results. Take this and spin it into a local pump team.

Another way built awareness is to approach your local commercial field owner about bringing out a private group in a few months, then start putting together a private pump day at your local field. There are a lot of tourney players who practice w/ pumps.

Thanks for the tips.

One cool thing about the field I go to (Blitz, near Denver, Colorado) is they have multiple fields and they have one dedicated to private play. So, if I could find a group of pumpers then we could do a few private pump games at Blitz. I might be able to find enough pump players and maybe dedicate one or two days a month to pump-only play.

I wish I could afford to bring a spare marker, but maybe I can swap markers with somebody for a game or two.
