Breech or breach?

Referring to guns and paintball guns, which is the correct spelling?

Breech when referring to guns. Breach is an action, ie to breach a door.

in regards to firearms from where the term originates, the breech is the opening at the back of the barrel (in a breech-loading gun) where the cartridge or charge is loaded prior to firing.

in a paintball marker it's the same concept, the opening into the back of the barrel (whether its vertical feeding, side feeding, etc) is the breech. conventionally, the bolt moves inside the breech to chamber and fire the paintball.
