Talking Just got back from NPPL Boston...

(Note this is written for the paintball-ignorant. I posted it originally on Tednugent.com's forum. I'm expanding on a couple things here though.)

No pictures to post yet, I only had a disposable, I gotta take it to walgreens to get it developed/scanned into .jpg format.

I had a BLAST. I seriously hope the NPPL decides they got a good enough reaction to bring it back to New England next year.

I only got to watch the amateurs playing but I had fun laughing as the referees pulled people they caught wiping. The players acted like they had done nothing wrong and almost punched the referee, despite the fact that he KNEW wiping a hit is cheating and it's the referee's job to pull cheaters. I saw lots of armbands flying off of clean players (The penalty for wiping/playing on with an obvious hit is they remove live players on the field in addition to yourself.)

As for the main attraction, the vendor show was very fun, I got to run around looking at all sorts of fancy new toys. I found one paintball gun that simply awed me as to how light the setup was, the Alien paintball 'remains' model. The thing barely weighed 2 and a half pounds with the barrel, tank, reg, and hopper on it. The guy running the display kinda got pissed when I pointed out that the way they got extra range (Diverting the flow of air from the bolt to the bottom of the paintball) has been used since the early 90's :P As for the only other gun that impressed me that I saw were the remade Arrow Precision sterling pump action guns. The guns had been somewhat of a rarity in the united states because they were british made, and Arrow Precision doesn't market effectively in the united states. They have a distrubutor in the USA now, and I met the guy. He was kind of impressed I knew what kind of gun it was right away when I saw it lol. I pretty much walked up to the tent he was in, got a glint of silver that looked like a 12 gram changer out of the corner of my eye, look over and go 'OOH! Sterling!!!' Got a free T-shirt off of that guy

The new Sterling is an absolutely beautiful marker now that they gave it yet another round of revisions. It appears to have a billet aluminum .45 frame now, and the trigger feels much like an early Carter Comp's, which is a thing of beauty. The center feed is convertible from hopper to stock class feed, it takes spyder barrels, and has a vertical air system running to the valve via hardline, though I was informed that a hawaiian style version is availiable. The pump stroke is the best I have ever seen. If I had this, the pump kit for my 'Cocker would be going bye-bye, this gun is so much better.

I finally bought a paintball jersy, it was a blue Evil brand Racer X jersy I got on sale for $25. A lot of stuff they have at these vendor shows are on sale for a bit below MSRP. Some were even selling well below online retailer prices.

I even got to play some Quake 4 in Dell's trailer where they had LAN games set up. I won like four 10-kill rounds. Nothing like old-fashioned DM with folks you don't even know. Except it's even better when you can hear their screams of agony as you blow their heads off with shotguns ^_^

Please note: If you ever go to one of these events and see the 'Bawls' energy drink stand, get the pods of the frozen 'Snow Bawls' stuff. Tastes like blueberry slushies and will give you a rediculous sugar buzz. Great stuff.

Cool! Chaos mentioned it to me, and tried to get me to go, but I was really beat last weekend. I hope they come back and I can attend in the future! Thanks for the rundown.

The new Sterlings really intriuge me now. Maybe I'll pick one up sometime.

The problem with the new sterling is I don't know where to get one, the guy never gave me a web page to find one, even though I asked. The future field owner he was showing the sterling to was impressed and might carry it some day, and his website is playmosnsterpaintball.com It's gonna be in Woburn, MA. I talked to him too, he seems like a good guy, he likes pump play, so there's gonna be a pump-friendly indoor field. Sounds awesome to me

The tournament's gonna run till sunday, FYI.

Thumbs up

Glad you meet Mark. I talked to Mark a couple of weeks ago and he sent the new models to APG for reveiw. To get hold of Mark here's his numbers 610-437-7138 bus. 813-766-7311 cell. I think and don't quote me,in a month or so they should be here for sale.Oh, to add info the feeds switch out. From center, stockclass, left and right. We<our chapter was sponsored by Arrow last year> and had a the last of the old style buit for us.But using spyder thread. Mrsp will be around $300.usd .And the stuff isnt cast like other guns. They use billet to make all the parts. Don't ask how much one of the new frames cost to put on a old model. They 'ant cheap! I say this much I had 4 phantoms and sold every one of them after shooting the sterling.Yeah, Arrow will take some time to rebuild trust from the U.S market. But, I think Mark can do it.

Oh, tell Mark .Chad sent ya from the Marshals.

Any pics of the new Sterlings anywhere? I've always heard good things about the older models.

Sounds like you enjoyed it, Murph.

mailmanmike Since Monday! That's more than 4 hours though, so according to those cialis ads I should see my doctor.
tlane77 I think for a non-chemical chubby it's 6 hours before its time to see a doctor. So you should be good for another couple hours.
splattttttt I wasn't goin to google "chubbin" because I assumed it had to do with fat. The lard type, not the fun stuff. But what ever feelings Jeff's experiencing, then they must be of the fun like stuff...
