Personally I think semi is the best way to introduce players purely on the basis of the marker being easier to use. During the game, after you have everyone set up with their safeties off and markers cocked, the use of them becomes "Point this end at what you want to hit and squeeze the trigger."

Some people can struggle to use a pump effectively due to not being accustomed to the motions and their timing. You don't want to introduce some people (who could be otherwise fine paintball players) to the sport by presenting them with a potential point of frustration.
