Your marker choice will depend on your style of play, budget, and what other equipment you've got (namely whether you use CO2 or HPA). There are plenty of options out there that are very reasonable.

But although the new marker is a lot of fun to buy, I'd make sure you've got a nice mask, hopper, and possibly air tank & barrel before you upgrade the gun. Paintball pants might also fit in that category. You'd be amazed how much those items might improve the convenience of an average day of play.

Spend the good money first on a comfortable MASK. No matter which marker you tote, no matter how long you plan to be out on the field, you will be in a mask. Get the best one you can for the budget you have, and then think about marker/clothing upgrades.

Good paintball pants are a definite improvement after a good mask. Neither of these should be too hard to purchase or save for, because there are lots of options out there and a fairly wide prcie range. Chance are something will line up for you that matches functionality to comfort to your wallet.

Start there, but I would also agree with the others who suggested a limited-paint marker next. There are a few good reasons I would suggest it also - 1) If you are tight on cash, you can play on the cheap 2) It never hurts to have a good backup 3) you could always loan it to a partner or team mate as an emergency spare, but 4) best of all, it will teach you CONTROL AND AIMING. If you can make your point and get your targets consistently with a pump, you will certainly be a much more formidable opponent when you have those skills and a decent hopperfull. If you can take the OPFOR out in 1 or 2 shots, having 200 shots at your disopsal makes you that much more of a threat. Just sayin'...

And what else should you spend money on... PRACTICING, PRACTICING, PRACTICING..I have seen folks with 'crappy' beat-up markers scare the mess out of the people toting the latest/shiniest because it was painfully obvious that THEY KNEW HOW TO USE THEM. Sometimes, money for practice is a legitimate 'upgrade', because in the end, it's not about the marker - it's about the marker's OWNER.

And as you get started, please take this to heart, and practice this always: SPORTSMANSHIP IS FREE, BUT NOT SHOWING ANY CAN COST YOU GREATLY...

Hope that helps...
