chopper is correct - they're a bore drop so they can't be bored. FLASC is doing a barrel for the 9.1 - dunno if they fit the 8.1 but I think he's doing small bores.

Why couldn't someone leave the breach/drop alone and bore from the outside-in?

Because then there's nothing to keep the insert from shooting out. Some kind of cap would need to be fabricated and due to the length difference I think most people would find it more expensive/difficult than it's worth.

I can do Freak boring, but Super Staunchy is the man to go to. I prefer not to do it, unless it is part of a larger project.

Obvious counter to that is... why not a set screw? Or a couple of set screws? (To spread the force out since you don't want to clamp down too hard in one place; there are a couple of options that could be used.)

Even with light pressure set screws would almost undoubtedly dent/bend the insert. They're painfully thin.

Although you theoretically could freak bore a t8 barrel, i think it would be more trouble than its worth. Even if you could find someone willing to do it for you, it would probably cost a fortune to do. Would probably be cheaper/easier to just go with daves got at FLASC

Well, I'm operating under a few assumptions here. Correct me if I'm wrong.

1. The force required to keep an insert in place is not really that great.
2. This is a matter of surface area.
3. The inserts we care about (brass & steel) are actually pretty stiff; much more so than the aluminum ones.

That being said, I mentioned there may be other ways to do things. For instance, perhaps cut a tongue into the barrel as well, and have the set screw come up through the Tiberius frame and hit that and spread the contact surface out so it doesn't deform the insert.

In fact, if we're talking about inserts, I see no reason why the barrel should be metal anymore... two molded halves of plastic, bottom one is pushed by a setscrew or two up against the top to hold the insert in place... barrel's no longer easily removable, but I'd take the tradeoff.

Likelihood of this idea ever seeing light of day: none whatsoever.

Can't judge worth without an estimate of cost.

My pistols are primaries though, so I think it would be worth it to me.

if your interested in doin a T8 i can do it backwards, but i would have to make a cap

essentially it would be like my mini barrel i made for my phantom.
(the clear barrel that is freaked)

it would be kinda cool to make a muzzle break thats james bond silencer-esque or somethin fun!

cost is gonna be freak bore + cap
