Taking Video for Paintball - Camera's?

I'm looking to take some film of some games, most specifically for the Fall EMR Castle game.

What small camera's are there out there and what really works and what does not?

I've seen quite a few choices and ranging of prices. I'm not looking for top quality video. This will never be played in a theatre or made into a for sale DVD, just something to share with the folks unable to attend, and maybe make some original content for the MCB TV sections.

Thanks in advance folks!

Depending on what you are looking for , are you thinking a helmetcam?

There are some good digital ones around with above average quality, although you will need to download the memory to get plenty of movie time. There is a new wireless helmet cam that can be used with a digital recorder a very cool set up for $1000+ or a regular wired sony helmet cam with a DVcamcorder is something in the middle of the two for around $600.

I know about the middle range option and have spent the last 6 months getting my setup 'tweaked' to a point where it is relaible to use now, I have found many things need to be set up in a certain way to insure plenty of hours of film. For example the batteries I use to power the helmet cam last for about 8 hours at least and can also start a car if need be.

Carter, I'll be bringing my helmet cam to Fall Castle. I believe its setup is similar to what Justin and =P of Pubcrawler fame runs. I'll hook you up with whatever footage I get once I copy it.

Heres my set up

I went the ebay route. My total set up was $160.00. You can go cheaper routes by buying the cams with longer cords then splicing them to your like. I'm still in the process of doing that. Tracy uses a video cam with LANC. I'm tempted to sell him my LANC remote but I'm still hopeing for a small video camcord with AV in and LANC. AV in is the most important. I even have a head cam that uses a 9v. Sothat eliminates the 8AA battery pack weight.Hope this helps.

I've watched Tracy's footage firsthand on the bigscreen TV and can attest that it's good high-def stuff. BTW, Tracy, do you have the links to the POD stuff you recorded?

The video I posted in PBC/MCB TV where I take out the tank is all filmed on HelmetCam, the quality of that video is much lower due to bandwidth restrictions but that is an idea of what you can get.

Steve, your set up intrigues me, how much footage do those cards hold? Curt, I couldn't get my link to work for some reason. I'm gonna put together a dvd of POG weekend but I need pics from everyone to include with my footage. I was going to ask you, Jake and anyone else for pictures for the dvd.

edit: uploaded short clips on MCB TV

Tracy,
I'm using a 1GB card. It works about 1 hr of film. Great for scenario, but once you stop filming you can't start from last stop. We'll get together soon and fig it out. Right now I'm on night shift and building my home so I have little time lol. Give me a call this week.
Later,
Blackrain
