awh...That's why I was wondering lol I was like wgp was already gone in 04 (K2).

So how did other companies keep selling electronic triggers. Did they all have to pay 50,000$?

because after 05 you still had DYE, WGP(kind of), Eclipse (part of sp, but I thought they branched off after the ego), Alien, Bob long, and I'm sure some others

Dye owned a spool valve patent that SP infringed upon, so the two came to a mutually beneficial agreement. Everyone else paid royalties.

Um, what? This is news to me. I though Eclipse was just a shop back in the day that made their own private label markers

Heh... Eclipse was never part of SP... that's a new one.

And while I'm at it... Despite common misconception resulting from SP's distribution of their products, Belsales wasn't owned by them, either, and SP most definitely did not manufacture the Evo.

Yeah they were just the US distributor for the Evo.

A move copied from Geno. At the same time, SP also blocked PVI's sales to other paintball distributors by threatening to cut them off if they dealt with PVI. It was more than PVI could handle, and yes, resulted in bankruptcy. The rest is history.

That's what I meant....the US distributor...I knew they had some relationship.
I was under the impression eclipse and sp were only in relationship via distribution and belsales manufacture the eclipse cocker parts

sorry I didn't mean to get off topic.

So every company had to pay 50,000$ to produce anything electronic?

That was simply speculation, rumor or leaked information pertaining to perhaps one particular manufacturer. Actual licensing arrangements were almost certainly protected by non-disclosure clauses.

I've heard everything from $10k up to $1 million license permits, and per-gun fees of $10 up to $300.

Thats the problem with internet rumors.... You never really know, except for the fact that it wasnt enough to keep Smart Parts in business.

I guess all that money is now going to Smart Parts version 2? (Gog, etc).
Every company either paid (ie ICD, BE, JT, Mac, PMI, etc), stopped making (AGD, AKA, etc), or worked out a deal (ie WDP, Dye, etc).

I'm sure the Gardners are sitting nice. They fired all the staff, closed the factory, and now are raking in the money for all that effort!
