Unfortunately It has been brought up to both owners, on multiple occasions, by multiple people other then myself. Field practice is that a ref must be present for any game to occur. With only a single walk-on ref, the only way to garuntee a good day of play is with a party of 15 or so.
If thats the case, then take the ref aside and tell him that you and your group refuse to play by their rules.

The ref has final say on the field, he/she should be splitting them up onto the teams and mixing up the fields to keep everyone happy.

Offer to ref for the rentals yourself? You sacrafice a bit of your play time but it makes sure the rentals get to have fun?

Part of the problem is age. I am one of the younger players at the fields, and most of the group Im complaining about have quite a few years on me, as do the refs. Most of them completely ignore my complaints.

Thanks for all the great suggestions though guys! I never expected this many responses.

If both fields are similar, you should buy one of the fields, get rid of the airball field and build a nice town field or something along those lines, raise paint prices enough to deter the douchebags and heavier shooters to show up (they will go the field with the cheapest paint) and start making money from the vast majority of players that want to have more fun playing paintball.

Or, if you don't want to get into the paintball field business, try to convince one of the existing owners to go that route as it will be more profitable for him.

I guess it's time to start shooting refs then.

Haha.. You do get some funny looks. I tossed one for the fun of it in a tournament (albeit a laid back tourny) and the ref walked over and in a quizzical voice asked: "Did you just throw a grenade on a speedball field?"

Yes... Yes I did.

So how many players were there other than the 5 teammates? Why did you all go along with the airball only play? Im sure there were more of "you" then them. If you wanted to play another field you should have said something to the ref.

Ah, its not the airball fields that are the problem its the odd bunch of people who
have no care for others. I have been dying to get onto a nice airball field

I dont mind airball fields, actually. Neither did anyone on the group. It just seemed odd. Pumps on airball fields can be TONS of fun.

It was me, my friend, and 3 others on our "team". keep in mind, the other players were in the 10-12 year old range, and thier father, prolly in his mid-late 30's.

I agree, Id love to see footage of grenades/launchers on airball fields! haha
