Wow sir. If I had a dream job, it would be to tinker with you. Seriously... You literally amaze me with all of your products. And this is going to be a skyscraper compared to your already incredible work. I wish I was you.

Any chance you can do a similar body/rail but for a Mag instead of a Phantom? I'd be all over it if possible!

I looked at it and it looks to be a royal pain in the butt. The front frame screw is right smack in the way.

I knew he couldnt stay away from looking at using a automag valve.

Actually incynr8 brought it up. I didn't even see it before he said he thought it was the smallest may ever. I did like the idea though

worked on this a bit ove rthe last couple of weeks. Mostly I was working on trying to make a real magazine for it. getting "D" shaped material isn't easy. Making it is even harder lol, unless you want to sepnd a pile of money on an extrusion die and a whole lot of stock.

So I tried my hand at hydroforming. I made a forming die with the correct dimensions for the outside of the magazine. Slid a piece of roudn tubing in and brought it up to 3000 psi with a protapower pump. fun

Well I didn't really get 3000 the first time other than pressurizing the whole die. it leaked. then I tried something else and it leaked out too. I tried face sealing, that worked up to 2000 PSI, but that wasn't enough to deform the material before it blew out. I tried an oring female gland in the die and it worked until the tube got so short that it lost pressure ( surprising how much it will shrink for a small change in cross section). Then I made a deeper gland surface and got it to seal longer. That let me get up to 3000 psi in the tube. However........ in order to get to yield strength on the tubing I had to thin it way down, with a full thickness wall I was only hitting about 3/4 yeild strength.

So now I had my thin tube, extra long gland ports and lots of pressure...... at 2800 PSI the tube deformed and promptly ripped. lol. Oh well it was a fun experiment. 6061 is too brittle for this.

SO I stared it a bit more. I tried to get 7/8" x .065" wall square tube as that is the standard dimension of the material I use in round. No go. I just happened to look onthe scrap rack the other day and what do I find but some 1" x .125 wall. Hey that will do!

So I picked that up and machined it down to the correct outside dimensions to work with the frame and voila, first strike maginess :

They hold first strikes and keep them from rotating left to right and they don't have enough room to tip over or flip front to back.

This version retracts and locks and holds 7 rounds. Sliding it into the magwell releases the lock on the magazine and lets them feed up into the breech, just like your typical mag feed gun/marker.

The original magwell was d shaped and now I needed a square magwell. ever try to machine a square hole? Good thing I have an EDM !! Square holes are easy

I also made a longer mag backing frame to go with the longer version of the magazines. It now includes the activator for the mag feed release and a spot to put the latch to hold the mag in ( the little slots).

At the end of today I started cutting the latch :

I hate tiny parts lol.

The mag inserts and locks into the correct position nicely, just before full insertion the feed is released and the feed plug comes right up and sticks out of the top of the frame.

So far I am happy with how it all fits together and works
