Well i'm gonna weigh in as a pseudo expert of sorts having worked in the shipping industry for 14 years. I write this message while wasting for my plane arrive to unload and reload. I work for a company that I do not want to name, lets just say they really like the color brown. Most people in the industry do actually take care to not damage the packages. However stuff happens. My advise, bubblewrap is your friend.

I agree, I got a cocker via USPS and the dude marked fragile all over it. That box was so beat up...

Received a set of 6 1/2" speakers once that were packed in a shoebox and seperated by newspaper. The mounting flange of one speaker overlapped the other speaker just to fit. I guess the sleer thought the liberal use of clear packing tape would secure the speakers, but no dice. The magnet shifted on one of them; and the other simply read open continuity.

The seller blamed UPS.

That happened with a Tigershark I bought off of here, too. Had to use a can of air to clean that thing out.

At the last minute I included a stiffi barrel in a deal last week. I wrapped it in paper and then put it, tightly fit, inside a piece of PVC pipe inside the package. In hindsight if they x-ray it it likely looks like a pipe bomb....

I bought a barrel once, it was shipped to me in a USPS tube with the plastic end caps. the mail man delivered an empty tube with no cap on one end. I later asked him if he had considered if anything might have been wrong with my package? he just stonewalled me saying he didn't recall. Shipping insurance got most of my money back, but I would have rather had the 12" Boomstick.
