Does paintball cost more? Likely. By that amount? Not for my friends and I. Couple of thoughts # of paintballs: I shot a case and 1/2 a bag at Canadian Carnage. A case for Saturday, 1/2 a bag for the pump Friday. I had 1/2 a pod left over. 4000 a day? Not in my world even at a "trigger happy" event. Let's not get into the far smaller amounts I shoot playing rec. Maintenance: Wipe off, 3 drops of oil, dry fire for a bit, place 'mag in gear bag.......and done. I'll include charging the batteries for my Rotor if we want to stretch this. Uh, 10 minutes if I'm shooting the breeze with my friends while doing it? Maybe a full strip down/lubing/o-ring replacement once a year per heavily used marker. 1 hr for a full breakdown. I'm still no where near that amount listed. I can see the advantages they were trying to show. However, I just don't seem them applying to my style of play. To each their own. EDIT: I'm not that familiar with airsoft. Is there a tourney equivalent? That seems to me where people spend the most on paint. It's not scenarios or rec.......tourney play is where paint costs are a PITA.

Yeah, an hour of maintenance might be a bit high. i do tear down each marker I used for the day and thoroughly clean it. I think one weekend when I used 4 different markers, I may have spent a couple of hours cleaning, but doubtfull. They might be including maintenance time as well though with masks, pods, etc which if you take into consideration might raise your maintenance time close to an hour. I do wash and dry all my pods, pod packs, loader and mask after every day of play. Adding this to the mix might put it up to close to an hour, but honestly I don't mind doing it, so putting that down as a "cost" is silly in my opinion. If you add all the tinkering time into this equation my "costs" would be ridiculous as I am constantly farting around with my gear.

I play paintball because I enjoy paintball more than I enjoy airsoft. I ride a Harley because I enjoy it more than a Honda (and the Honda is a lot more comparable to a Harley then airsoft is to paintball). As long as I can afford it I'm not going to attempt to boil it down to a logical point because neither playing paintball or airsoft is perfectly logical.

I save tons of money in paintball by just getting shot out early in nearly every round.

I've been playing a little less as of late, but earlier this year I was paintballing at least once a week. I spent $25 every other time I went to play. I got free admission, bring my own 12ies, and buy a bag (for $25) that I can play atleast 2 days off of. Every other weekend is free pretty much, unless I run out of 12ies. But walmart sells 40 12ies for like $13.

Who shoots 2 boxes a day, every weekend, and doesn't have an HPA tank?! I still don't doubt airsoft can be cheaper than paintball, but soccer/football is cheaper than hockey, too. They both have players moving around attempting to put a rounded object into the opposite end of the playing surface. Therefore, why would ANYONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND play hockey? Hockey requires more costly equipment, and it's like, cold and wet and stuff. Am I right, guise? |
