Pick an object around the room and bring the gun up as if shooting it, using your normal sighting method. Then freeze, move your head to make sure the barrel is directly in line with the target. The closer you are, the closer on target you will be in game. Use smaller objects to similate objects seeming smaller at distance.
As silly as this may sound it really does work. If nothing else it gets you comfortable with the gun in your hands and that alone is worth it IMO.

ah the different tank could have thrown off you're normal groove via different weight, length, width etc.
