Has anyone else been in this position?
Cant 'fully' afford a gun on top of playing? Dont buy a new gun every time you play. Thats kind of a no-brainer, but it does seem to be the prevelant notion of the younger 'nation-generation' where a new gun must be used every new day of play. If you can afford to drop $100 on a day of play (field fee and a case of paint) you can afford a nice used gun no problem.
I have 10+ guns and have only gone 3 times in the past 2 years. I see no problem owning all of my gear even being removed from the game. I will not rent. The reason I own the guns I do is because when I DO go, it brings me more joy to use them than it would a cheap rental. Plus my friends dont need to buy their own gear when they can use mine. Its not mooching when someone is being generous to their friends. They dont play enough to need to buy gear, and I wont let them rent when I have gear that isnt being used at the time. Plus I maintain my stuff really well, what little is required, so I know it is good to go.

I am at a point where I need to crack down and get some debt out of the way, so avoiding purchases is a must...even though some would disagree and spend the dough anyway (as tempting as it is). 6 months and I can buy whatever my nostalgic, paintballing heart desires.
it's always more expensive to rent something, otherwise it wouldn't be profitable.

I don't buy a gun every time I play haha. The point is, I love paintball but outside financial woes are in my way right now and sometimes that urge to play gets overwhelming but you have to force yourself to save. It sucks.

Buy a cheap Tippmann 98. You could probably even buy an ex-rental. Buy a nice mask, a workable hopper, a tank, and a Lapco barrel for it.

EDIT: If you are really against buying a full kit, maybe just get a good mask and barrel to use with their equipment.

^yup. Plenty of good ebay/craigslist deals, quality of guns that will be equal to or greater than those of rentals, costs are less likely to leave you homeless and hungry, and you'll save $$ not renting every single time.

I've rented while on vacation once, used a beat-up ol' 98 Custom. Sear or hammer (or both) was worn so had a lot of double/triple shots, but still had fun. But i had brought my own mask cuz Crom forbid i ever use a rental mask. So my advice, if you continue to rent, at least buy a good mask.

if you think a $10 used gun is more expensive than renting for $10 every time then i know where your financial woes come from....
