hurts less, better for little kiddies and places with stricter kinetic energy projectile laws... that's it.

can someone post the link where a paintball athlete previously endorsing the small caliber finally coming out and saying it's a bad caliber and plain marketing?

More shots per tank
More shots per hopper
Cheaper paint per round (quality may be another matter)
Less impact

If you are using the only 50 caliber gun on the field, you can tell everyone you have little balls.

You get more exercise from having to get closer to your foe to be able to actually hit him.

Very good Carter. You win a cookie. That is a New Jersey special. In 1986, became legal to own and play paintball in NJ. A field owner named Ray Gong sued the state of NJ for exemption status of paintball due to our laws within the state. BB or pellet guns are considered firearms in the state of NJ. You are required to have firearm ID card for ownership. Also anything over I believe 62 caliber was considered a weapon of mass destruction shotguns excluded. Since paintball was 68 caliber and air powered it created a predicament. Before 1986, anyone who played were really playing outlaw style

At first they made the guns into 62 and 50 caliber to bypass the WMD portion of the law. The claim was it could be legal to shoot if the shooter had a Firearms ID since it could be classified as airgun. I believe the 50 caliber equipment back then didn't work effectively. So Ray did the next thing and basically sued the state for an exemption status for paintball so he could start his business. It went through the courts in which the judge did a test at a shooting range. In mid 1986, a ruling was granted for paintball legalization. I believe Bud Orr and Jessica Sparks testified on behalf of Paintball legalization. Within 2 years, a number of fields sprung up along with a number of shops. Ray Gong sold off his interests to the field he start several years ago and relocated to California. I do not know if he is still active within the paintball community. I had the pleasure with speaking with Ray a few times and he was definitely a pioneer of the game in NJ.

Since then there has been a few attempts to restrict paintball in the state along with airsoft. Nothing really got through the legislature. If anyone has access to old magazines, there is are a few articles and side notes about the NJ legal process. However the story above was the gist of the story. I am sure there are a few details that I might have missed.
