One of the things I like most about the Mokal Aura is the safety switch. It's an electro with fancy circuit board and lights and crazy firing modes, but there is no button combination to shut the thing down; just a simple safety you pull out or push in. It's not in the most sensible place, and have read that it sometimes is hard to engage, but I think having a one touch safety switch should be a standard on electro's. The last time that I played, the ref's were making sure everyone's gun had the safety on as we entered the safe zone. Most others had the typical rental 98's and he verified the safety was on. When I showed him my Ego was off, he really didn't know what to look for and just waved me by without more than a glance. For me as the player, I think it would be more convenient to be able to switch the gun on and off with a single switch or button instantly instead of having to hold a button down. Sometimes I don't push hard enough due to gloves or the rubber button cover. I think electro's could benefit from this. What are your thoughts? Is there a reason that would make holding a button down for a few seconds not a big deal? For example, most electric hoppers continue to spin and make noise when out of paint. This doesn't matter to the tourney players because their format is louder, and the whir of the motor wouldn't be out of place. Use a Rotor when playing woodsball and you run out of paint, and you might lose the element of surprise. What do you guys think?
Space gun semis are built for speed
Anything to hinder that is a unwanted
Any gun I own has either the safety removed or locked in place so I can't accidentally hit it mid game
High end semis have on/off asa's, power buttons and eyes
So end of the game flip your air off, turn your hopper off, cycle the air out, turn your gun off
Or... Turn your gun off and throw your bbd on it
Safetys are unneeded
I, on the other hand, prefer a nice simple analog switch on my electros. Not a mash the button and hope it turns off, no a "switch is this way for on, that way for off" is what I like. You can tell the state of the gun at a glance (is my battery dead, or did I mash the wrong button to turn it on?), and it isolates the battery from the board completely so the last a bit longer.
I don't like safety switches or buttons. They confuse me before a game. "Is this on safety or not!?"
For me, a blinky light and a button is more practical on an electro. Each to his own.
Barrel condom. Everywhere I play, a barrel condom is mandatory.
I want to easily see that everyone is on "safe".
I also hate safeties like plague, and if any gun has one, I take it off.
I like a physical, old-fashioned, trigger-blocking safety, but THE safety indicator is an easily visible barrel condom. The safety switch is a redundant feature, which is good, but to me it's primary purpose is to prevent an accidental shot into the condom, since that blocking device is only off when it's safe to fire anyway.
Angels and egos (at least on the ego10 and ego11) allow you to hold a button for a few seconds to engage an electronic safety. I'm sure others do it too.
I went to an outlaw game where nobody had any barrel bags or plugs. I asked the players why and their response was that they had safeties or turned their boards off. Needless to say, I never played with that group again.
It is fine to have a safety, but there should always be a backup/failsafe device that EVERYBODY can see at a glance to know that a given marker is truly safe from accidental discharge into someone's eyes. I'm with Axel. The other safety mechanisms are merely to avoid the accidental discharge into the real safety device.
I don't like safeties on mech guns. I do wish more electros and hoppers used power switches. It's hard to tell if you're pressing a button all the way while wearing gloves or with numb fingers. Flashing LEDs also suck and get difficult to see in bright light. I've always partially despised halos and ions for these reasons.
I notice sometimes even after I turn off my ASA that I still have enough air for one shot if the marker is on.
