Cash in the mail?

So last week I had someone buy some gear from me and I asked for paypal, since he didnt have it and thats the only method I take , we did a deal and I gave in and hes sending me American cash in an envelope to me. I really didnt wanna do this because its not smart on his part at all obviously, but he said he sent the money to my Canadian address and when it arrives I will ship out the stuff he paid for. This may be a dumb question or simple answer but what do I do if it doesnt arrive? Is it all his fault that the money didnt make it to me after we made the deal? Im honest and will be sending his stuff out as soon as I get the cash but now its been a week and hes messaging me daily asking where the money is.

Getting mail to Canada does take longer so I expect more than a week anyway.
Is there some legal issues with sending the cash like this?

Nope, Perfectly legal. It should be avoided because the money could get lost. I waited over 2 weeks for a package from Canada once. Tell him it takes a while to get past the border.

Did he get any sort of tracking or anything on the envelope? Seems awfully risky on his part since there is no way to confirm delivery without that. In my opinion he's responsible for getting the money to you, if it doesn't it's 100% on him. For his sake I hope it either gets to you or is returned to sender.

If he's upset about how long it's taking only thing you can do is tell him in the nicest way possible you're sorry but it was his idea to do it this way, nothing you can do to make it get to you any faster or even at all. Even if you decided to be dishonest there is no way to prove it, no way to prove he even sent the cash either.

Okay thank you, I doubt he got tracking on the letter. Seemed like I had to explain what a postal code was and approx how many stamps for him to use. After the transaction I will be letting him know not to do it this way again because of the risk.

I did a couple of payments that way when I was new here. It isn't a great way to do payments but it sure lets you know who you can trust. Money orders are much better.

I was going to say should have used a money order also.
And 14 business days in not unheard of when sending from the USA to Canada.

Otherwise it could go right down the drain...

So we'll see.

I have done it once. It was a small amount if I recall correctly, and I folded it in a junk flyer from the mail to disguise it. It took time, but made it there fine.

Tell me why I had to be a powerslave.
I don't wanna die, I'm a god, why can't I live on?
When the Life Giver dies, all around is laid waste.
And in my last hour,
I'm a slave to the power of death.

I've sent thousands in cash across the border and across Canada - usually no real problems. You need to send it with tracking/signature confirmation...and insure it lol

Just one problem was it was delivered to the wrong house...but a nice neighbour made it right the next day.

I've sent a $650 M/O down south and it got "lost".

If it is sent regular mail, it might get stolen by a worker on the x-ray machine - which would suck.

Im pretty sure its coming just as regular mail which also scared me because of the workers seeing the quick cash. Hopefully I get this money soon (fingers crossed)

Thanks for the replies!
