Hoarding vs. Collecting

This is kind of a re-hash of previous topics.

This has come up a couple times in the past few weeks when I'm talking to people about paintball and my collection. A couple people have said, "you don't need any more markers". Which is true. I don't. I have lots. I don't NEED anything.

However...what I try to explain is that I'm putting together a collection. I'm not necessarily haphazardly collecting markers. I'm not even just collecting EVERY old marker. I have a couple niche areas that I'm trying to collect.

Yes I'm a paintballer. Yes I use some of my markers regularly. But I also think of myself as a stamps, coins, etc. I don't need more....but there are pieces that will go nicely into the collection.

So what about you? Are you a collector or a hoarder? And if you're a collector, what is it that you're collecting?

I think of myself as a collector most of the guns I have now days are works of art in my mind and I honestly dont plan on taking them to a field I have my same old 3 guns I always use when I do play, I just dont have the heart to play with my SIC impulse or my Ripper lcd angel they are just to perfect for me to mess them up That being said I collect PL impulses and rare older angels

Definitely collector.

There are a few brands/models/designs that I like and I try to have one of each generation/variation of them. When it comes to the markers I play with regularly, they all tend to have the same brand regulator, feedneck, on/off, etc. I have a small section of wall devoted to "ooh, look at that" markers but it's not my focus.

Generally when I find I'm being to packrat-ish, or I discover a tool box or closet bottom that has a good stash of forgotten goodies/not-so-goodies, I try to redistribute through friends, and then the forums, and then ebay. Usually scores me some points with the missus and makes her less wary of new acquisitions - as long as the flow is going.

My collection is pretty lean, and specifically comprised of guns I really, really like for aesthetic or practical performance purposes. And a few others just cause they are cool

Some say I'm a hoarder, because there seems no common theme to my collection.

I prefer to think I'm a collector, of the guns I like.

I would say I'm a collector. I'll pick up the odd marker for lenders but for myself I have what I use but on occasion I'll grab another one for me. My weakness is Nel-Spots and I think its because it the marker I started with and played with the first couple of years of play.

That nelspot never needs lube, shoots 2,000 ball per second, never needs reloaded, doesn't require an air source and when the paintball hits somebody the result is the same as if Chuck Norris round house kicked them.
He nick named the gun Reggie.

I was collecting, but I've sold most of that stuff off. I liked going for older NIB stuff.

Now my gear is much more centralized. Actually, it looks like I'm becoming a CCM snob.
