Patch Collection (VERY Pic Heavy)

I picked up a collection of gear from a player who was active in tournaments in the late 80's / early 90's era, including a box of patches. Some of these I recognize, some I've never heard of; in any case, I'm looking for information on the business, team, event, etc., or the patch itself (different versions, or what have you).

I have some of these in multiples, and extras might end up in the BST. Maybe. Either way, information on value is also appreciated.

I've numbered them for convenient reference, and listed what I already know.

#1. ORKS (Organized Rapid Kills 1989-1990 Team Patch). The lot belonged to their former captain, who by the way, is now registered here on MCB as "Adder."

#2. Dry Heeves. A team patch, I assume. There are something like 15 of these so you can probably start your own team if you happen to be from Manassas :D

#3. Lyons Trading Company. Never heard of it.

#4. RPS/PMI Music City Open 1991. I'd love the tournament results and any stories out there, but even WARPIG doesn't go quite that far back.

#5. The Ultimate Adventure. No information.

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...547_-_Copy.JPG

#6. Outdoor Adventures Oct. 1990. No information.

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...549_-_Copy.JPG

#7. The Phantom. When did Mike have these available?

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...550_-_Copy.JPG

#8. Virginia Paintball Championships 1988. No information.

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...551_-_Copy.JPG

#9. Tech-Na-Ball. Not sure, but I think the gentleman I bought these from mentioned this as a store in Manassas that was a major retailer at the time.

#10. Paintball Sniper. Looks pretty generic to me.

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...557_-_Copy.JPG

#11. Air Assault Team. No information.

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...558_-_Copy.JPG

#12. Paint Check. Was this a publication? I know the name from somewhere.

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...559_-_Copy.JPG

#13. Line SI Masters, Nashville, 1989. There are four of these, so of course I pick the one with a blemish to photograph. I'd be very interested in participating team lists and results; I think the ORKS were there, but again, this pre-dates WARPIG. Also AGD introduced the 6-PAK at this event.

#14. Bart's Stud Squad. Anyone have information on this team? This is a large patch, maybe 4 inches.

#15. Commanchee Combat Survival 1990. A field?

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...562_-_Copy.JPG

#16. Barnet Rangers. No information.

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...564_-_Copy.JPG

#17. LRRP Cup July 14, 1990. No information.

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...565_-_Copy.JPG

#18. Swamp Rats. No information.

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...566_-_Copy.JPG

#19. Failsafe. This is one of those I feel like I should know, but can't place it.

#20. Paint Check Tournament, May 26 & 27 1990 @ Skirmish, Jim Thorpe, PA.

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...569_-_Copy.JPG

#21. Line SI. I like these almost as much as the Bushmaster and Skirmish that they came with. Almost. :D

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...570_-_Copy.JPG

#22. International Paintball Players Association. Did these come in a membership packet?

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...571_-_Copy.JPG

#23. Aerostar East. A very unique and colorful patch; one of my favorites. I did find this link here; I guess Aerostar was a big mail-order retailer back in the 80's/90's?

#24. JT Racing USA. There were a couple of what I think are window decals in the box as well.

http://www.mcarterbrown.com/gallery/...538_-_Copy.JPG

#25. Ok, I don't really need help with these. I bought them form the sources myself. :D Now, if Dan Bacci would make a patch, too... *cough cough*

Thanks for looking, and thanks for any information you can provide!

Cool find!

Nice!

I might see if my boss has any info on those older tournament patches and whatnot.

Very cool collection. Wish I could help you out.

18. Swamp Rats - This team was based out of Wolfs Lair (EMR). I played with them once or twice, probably still have a t-shirt. A couple of their members are on here, Heavy68 and Wraith 68. A few of them went on to form the Freaks of Nature, which still plays in EMR events.

#6 was a part of a 3 part series that was held at 3 different fields. The first patch was from a field in Baltimore, the second was from a field in Va and the third is the one pictured. When all three are put together it forms the shape of a stop sign. I had all 3 but my patch jacket was stolen from me in Daytona Beach from a former roommate. The Air Assault Patch (#11) was from the same game, they had helicopter rides that would drop you behind enemy lines and if you added that to your package, you got that patch as well.

The IPPA patch came in a membership package.

#20 The Paintcheck patch was an art contest that I won and had my original art posted on the front cover of their magazine, never knew they made it into a patch.

The phantom patch came with the unibodies, right about the same time as the rest of the patches (~89-~91)

***

PaintCheck was a magazine. They didn't seem to have all of the adds APG did, for better and for worse.

tarakian 04-17-2013 03:11 PM

I think PaintCheck also had a tournament.

We seriously need to bring the patches back. I wish that new markers came with company specific patches.
Pat.

Cool, now I need to find a Waffen Elite patch to go with it... seriously, that is good stuff. I love EMR, and knew nothing of the Swamp Rats. This is the the kind of information I was hoping to find.

Thank you! This is the gold I was digging for. PCRI--is that the Paint Check tournament patch (what's the "RI" stand for?)?

It might've been a five man tournament? Maybe at Skirmish? :D

Pat.

You and me both. Even in my previous heyday, around 02-04, most major events I attended still gave out patches with the registration packet. 'Course I can't find my own collection. :bang:
