Hey guys I was wanting to get a camera for recording while I'm playing, I was wondering if anyone had a certain one they would suggest. I would want something that can take a hit has good audio and a great filming, I would like it to have a good slow motion capability to catch those great shots, thanks guys

GoPro 3 black for your gun. Best optics out of all the POV cameras plus 720@120fps and 1080@60fps. Contour roam+2 for your head (smaller profile). Has 720@60fps. Both nice cameras although I am definitely partial to the GoPro.

If I remember correctly from when it was first released, a lot of people said it was overpriced for what is was. I could be mistaken though.

From the reviews I've read, videos I've seen, my own experience using them, and spec comparison it's behind the other 2 substantially.

decent sound and video and i don't know how many times i've been shot in the thing but when it finally does give out i think replacement lense kit is only $10-$20.

Can't beat a GoPro if you want it on your head...

That said I've found my R7 to be easier to use, easier to mount, more reliable and less obtrusive. Mounts to every marker I own with a CCM feedneck and stays locked in place, takes hits but never breaks... It looks and feels like it's meant to be there.

GoPro is great on the mask but put it on a marker and... well it makes me think of my old Brownie camera in it's "underwater" box. Looks like the pop-out on a mobile home; not streamlined and totally out of place.

You want a wide field of view to actually see what you see when playing. So make sure the camera can do at least 170 degree wide angle. (it will be slightly fish eye'd).

Slo motion is dependent on your editing software, most HD cameras can do decent slo motion, as long as there isn't a lot of movement in the scene. I film in 60fps for my zoomcam and that allows me to do pretty slo scenes without degrading quality. But, my helmet cam I run 30fps.

Don't expect to buy an action cam and be able to SEE what you are shooting in paintball. As that isn't the case, action cams are made to show what YOU are doing on the field, and that is about it. If you shoot a guy at 40 feet away, you can see the person, but you won't see the paintball hit that person. And most shots in paintball are at around 75 feet, so unless they are backlit, you likely won't be able to tell there is anyone there...

The only way to SEE what you are shooting in paintball is with a gun cam with zoom. And those aren't made yet. Unless you build your own like I did.

Here is a video I just finished that shows my Contour Roam helmet cam (filming in 170 wide angle at 720HD and upconverted to 1080HD in my edit gear which is Sony Vegas Movie Studio.) The close up shots are filmed with my gun cam which is my ZoomCam a custom enclosure I built around a Sony HDR CX210 with 30X optical zoom, I played these games with it set at 12X optical zoom, then zoomed in more digitally in post production.

And the Contour Roam can clearly take a hit, as that was a shot from about 20 feet away at the end, right on the lens of the camera.

Here is a video I did that shows what you can expect from an action camera (any brand) verses a camera with Zoom when filming paintballs shooting from your gun.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX3ipQ828q0

Total cost in my setup. $420

Contour Roam $99 (amazon) I use the mounts that come with it on my visor, and zip ties to keep it from bouncing around.

Sony HDR CX210 $199 (refurbished from Sony on Ebay)
Extended battery $17 (aftermarket on ebay)
Flash memory cards 2-16gb $19.99 (local microcenter sale 9.99 each)

ZoomCam enclosure $25 (parts from Lowes and time...)
Sony Vegas Movie studio platinum $60 (I'm using an older version 10)

The nice thing is you can build it a piece at a time. I would start with a Roam as they are so cheap, and film really well, and the audio works great on them. (unlike the go-pro where the audio is muffled).

Here is a video where I am using a Contour Roam, and the HenryCam is also a Contour Roam, and then Terry at the end is using his Go Pro 3. I edited them all on my system, so you can see how they compare when using the files side by side. Audio levels were left alone and not manipulated at all. (I run my Contours at about 65% gain in the audio settings in the firmware)

I started filming with an ATC3K action cam, (actually it is sitting in a box in my basement...) which filmed at 640 X 480. So any action cam today is MUCH better than that. But I was able to get some decent video over the years with that camera, and have videos with large view counts that still get views today, which were filmed on that old cheap camera. (it was $119 when it was new).

I was really impressed with the Roam 2 and I'll be buying one in the future. When I was at SPEW Benji was using it during most of the event, we would watch the videos during the night and I was just in awe at how amazing the quality was.
