Great question. Sounds like fun, what does a 3D printer of sufficient quality go for? I know, if I have to ask I can't afford it.

they sell like 6 or 7" cube areas for under 1000 at staples.com

next size up 8" cube is about 1400

12" cube is 2k+

multi color, large volume, high precision stuff is in the 40-60k range

3D printers can be had for the cost of a soldering station, a handful of junked inkjet printers, and a whole lot of your time.

The best home made 3D printers and milling machines are used to produce your next generation of printer/miller.

Ive only located one by me. But there still over an hour away. And when i talked to them on the phone they sounded clueless.. Id love to try this hopper out but id have to purchase the internals first too. As i dont even have an old halo to rip apart.

modify simon's design to be more pieces? that front face is already flat and ready.

the cheapest rigidbot seems to be under 400 too, and prints bigger http://inventapart.com/rigidbot.php

Make your own. I'm making a Reprap MendelMax 1.5. I'm in it $850. My print volume is 8"x8"x6".

While the Inception hopper design is open source, it is definitely NOT designed with 3D printing in mind. I've looked at the .stl files and they are made with injection molding in mind. It is going to take some significant re-work to get them to reliably print on my machine.
