Helicopter Paintball

On May 19th, 2013, we chartered a helicopter for our Call of Duty: Black Ops II Scenario game. 2 lucky players won a chance to go up and shoot down at the field and players below. Here is the video from the day. We'll be following this up with the full runs from the helicopter. Here's the video:

Here's the gun setup.
GET TO THE CHOPPAAA!

and another picture from inside the helicopter:
FROM THE CHOPPAAAA!!

Special thanks to Empire, JBI Helicopters, and all the players that came up and played to make this one amazing day.

Did you get some kind of ok from field insurance to do that? Firing on the field from above seems like something an insurance company would freak out about. Should have given them a full auto setup and a HUGE box loader.

We actually had to get FAA approval for this one. As far as insurance is concerned it wasn't an issue because of the following:

We had the owner and/or myself in the helicopter behind the 2 shooters monitoring them (they went up 1 at a time). We were on a pre-set flight path, both shooters were pretty experienced paintball players who knew the field well, and they were both harnessed in hanging out the door. The helicopter itself was, to our surprise during testing, an incredibly stable platform to shoot out of. The rotor wash did absolutely nothing to effect the paintballs coming out of the gun. The gun was chrono'd at around 250 FPS'ish.

At first glance the reaction may be "that's not safe" but when sitting in the helicopter looking down/shooting out of it your opinion would change dramatically. We did test runs here prior to letting people go up. We did our homework and it was very.expensive.homework but worth it to us.

The gun was an Empire TM-15 LE given to us by Empire for this. If you can get over the size of it it's actually a decent gun!

Oh, I wasn't saying it wasn't safe. I think it's super cool. I'd be wanting to stand on the skids if I did it. You would not be able to get me out of the thing. The "testing" would've lasted for DAYS.
