My New ION.

I bought this ION about a year ago so that I could get back into playing paintball after a 4 year break. After playing a few times, I really fell in love with the gun, and it started sucking all the funds right out of my wallet. With all the money I have put into it, I could have easily bought an upgraded Shocker, but once again, I really like this gun. I think that Smart Parts could have done a better job with the gun based on the upgrades I have added. The bolt out the back upgrade was the best thing I could have ever done as the gun was a pain to take apart before this. That was my main gripe, that and the stock board. Anyhow, anyone else ever drop WAY too much money into an entry level gun? I think I am close to the $600 mark without a tank or hopper, lol. Here's a pic of my baby....

I actually like the Ion design, it's a bit of a pain in the *** to service, but it doesn't need to be serviced too often and it's almost impossible for some kid renting one or trying it for the first time to destroy it, other than liquid co2 in the plastic lines. I'm working on a piecemeal Ion right now. I'm going on the cheap a little bit, I don't like the feel of the stock trigger frame, but I'm gonna reshape it with some bondo before painting the whole thing. Hell you could just upgrade the basic gun for about 80 bucks with the warrior bolt, feedneck, QEV and trigger and have a nice performing marker for a little under 300. The stock reg I find is about on par with the CP regs if you take it apart and lube it every once in a while.

Could we get a close up pic of the body and the trigger frame please? Just read about the Powerlyte body in a mag and it's looks pretty cool.

She looks very pretty!

It wasn't entry level at the time, but I bought a brand new Autococker around 1996. I spent way too much on upgrades over the course of a year or two. At least the gun ended up being useable.

One day, I'd like to build an Ion totally out of aftermarket parts...

Hi,

Not bad looking at all. As much as there is an anti SP sediment around here, I think the Ion is not a bad gun at all. My local shop sells them like they are going out of style. He has had more problems with the more expensive PMRs than the Ion based markers he sells. He even thinks the Ion might be on par with Tippmann's offering in reliability.

My wife has an Ion from when they first came out. I just Upgraded the body to a Trinity kit and added a QEV. Dropped the heck out of the dwell and lowered the pressure. The gun has been used several times since then and never a problem with it. Shoots straight and fast. Does pretty well on efficiency using a 68/4500 tank. It's a really nice gun and anyone who has used it said the same. You cannot beat it.

Later,
shaggy
