Use it or lose it? The 6 month rule

I've had this rule in my head for awhile.... anybody else live by it?

You can have as many toys/gear/guns/cars/whatever but if you dont use it in 3/6/9/12 months you have to get rid of it.

I've had it with my main paintball markers for awhile....
and I had to sell my super ssc phantom last winter because of it

I use it with projects too (30 days or they go to the bottom of project mountain)

technically there are a few guns that are getting close....
one being my pink/black angel pump (at 3 months today, still not even reassembled from ano)

anybody else have a similar rule?

Does picking it up, fondling it, and snapshooting imaginary agglets in my living room count as "using" it?

I can say I absolutely don't follow that rule. Ive got guns I haven't shot in 10 years.

Some of my project guns take years to assemble the way I want them. Some dont get touched for a year at a time depending on everything else. And what I feel like working on.

My AKA Merlin took a 4-5 year rest while I played mainly pump. It was brought back out this spring and after some tuning by Carl Jr at Topgun Paintball worked 100%.

some are too painful to consider selling.

there are mitigating factors. can you afford a collection, have the room for it, then keeping it as a rule is pointless.

its better to say that you should sell something that you will never use, or has no sentimental value. no use holding onto that rapide comp, that was giving to you.

besides, i need multiple guns, cause i never know what's going to work when i get to the field, or the level of play that i'm going against. walkons mainly mech, or a slow electro; mid level, run whatever; speedball, my fast guns. different flavors for different games.

I don't have a big collection, but I sadly don't play often enough to follow a 6 month cycle and use them all.

My rule of thumb is generally, I will have one of each type of marker. I.E. one pistol, one stock class, one open class, one mech, ect... Lately though, I don't care to even have an electro, so in my mind I'm closing that position and opening a spot for an AT open class pump lol. Of course, if following rules ever starts to get too religious for me, I will break them on purpose.

That means I would have to get rid of 92% or more of my markers if I followed that rule.

That nelspot never needs lube, shoots 2,000 ball per second, never needs reloaded, doesn't require an air source and when the paintball hits somebody the result is the same as if Chuck Norris round house kicked them.
He nick named the gun Reggie.

I think this may be the wrong forum for an unbiased result. I don't even consider myself a collector and I have four guns I haven't shot in over two years.

Same here. Half the guns on my pegboard were placed there years ago and left untouched. Just like the shoes in my wife's closet.
