My Daughter, Paintball, and Pistols/Pumps

My 13-year-old daughter has been begging me to take her out the next time I go. I'll be meeting up with a group of other MCB members for a pistols & pumps game in Linglestown, PA. While I plan on taking my Phantom (which is as old as she is... and almost as loved ), I let her try out my other markers for size. Even holding my old Spyder, she looked uncomfortable with the size and weight (which eliminated the Bob Long Signature Series Cocker altogether). I'm looking at cheap alternatives for her that will also allow us to play pistols/pumps together. I'm considering the JT ER2 as it's small, cheap, and a pump pistol. I've also considered picking up a PGP if I can find one at a fair price in case she doesn't like paintball (I've always wanted a PGP anyway). Then there's the original Splatmaster. Enough said on that. What do you guys think? I'm looking for something to fit the bill, be dirt cheap (< $50), and be something I'd want myself in case she doesn't like paintball. Thanks!

...if she's strong enough to pump it.

My first thought was to buy the Rapide that maggot is selling for $30 (so I'll finally quit debating doing it myself), but she'd probably have issue pulling that trigger all day.

There's a guy around here selling an ACP for $30. The thread is something like "Phantom package and a pistol" or similar. That would probably work for her. Faster CO2 threading than a PGP, no heavy pump stroke, and a little easier on a beginner to not have to go full stockclass right off the bat.

That's definitely your best bet

Yeah. She is a pretty slight build. Size and strength will definitely be a factor.

Yes, yes it is. Buy it before I give in and make my wallet cry again.

If you really want a pump, I think the Splatmaster (the original kind) would be a real hard-to-beat option. Super light, easy to pump, and shoots well enough*.

*since I assume your buddies are gonna go easy on her

My wife uses a Piranha R6 with a 9oz. tank. You should be able to get one of those pretty cheap. They are a little lighter than a old Spyder.

For a beginner I'm not sure stock class or even a 12g powered pistol is the way to go... Even as an adult my first time playing was somewhat daunting learning the flow of the field, watching my own six, and the trajectory of paintballs vs what I was used to with real steel or video games. Adding 12g changes and feed plugs and pumping to that would have been a test for sure.

Spyders aren't that heavy by themselves, heck I've held full size Spyders that seemed lighter than my Zeus. Have you tried giving her the Spyder with a small tank like a 13 ci or a 4 oz., along with a 50 round hopper?

You could pick up an Empire ER3 for real cheap. They've got more plastic than your typical Spyder, and they're super compact with the foregrip right up against the trigger guard. Slap on a 7-oz tank and a 100-round loader and turn her loose.

If you have the cash to spend, nothing screams "perfect for a 13 year old girl" like a Mini.

It's a Spyder E99 Avant with a few "upgrades". Even without the tank, it's still pretty beefy. That, and I did a trigger job on it and it's... touchy.

Not a beginner's marker as it sits.
