Why do I/We Play Paintball

I wrote this after a scenario last night after reflecting after talking to some friends and family who don't play...

I get asked that all the time. Why paintball? Or what is paintball, and when I proceed to tell people I play or explain what it is, I always get funny looks. Is it because we are a bunch of masochistic, crazy people who like dressing up in funky clothes or camouflage on the weekends and shoot each other with high powered air guns? Perhaps some of us. Is it because we enjoy hunting something that can actually hunt you back without having to kill it? Perhaps many of us feel that way. Aside from the crazy masochistic part, these are all some of the reasons why I play... But what really makes me want to travel all over the world, to play, and what makes me do that? Well it is for a number of reasons... But the main reason, is because of the people.

I have met some of the best, nicest and most interesting people in the world in the 12 years I have been playing this sport. Some have become as close to me, and as good to me as family, many have become part of my family, and are closer to me than many in my family. Many of these people I would go to hell and back with and for. It's the camaraderie, the bonds forged on and off the field, sharing stories, sharing our bruises, yes, even the arguments that ensue. All of it is worth it in the grand scheme of things.

I can walk onto any field in the world, with people I have never met before, but in that time that we are together, we all have one common bond, that is rather uncommon, we all love this sport, and live for this sport. Because to many of us, this isn't just a sport, it's become a way of life, something we MUST do. Others have tv, shopping, movies, drugs, alcohol... even stamp collecting and golf as their hobbies or outlets, and this is ours. And once everything is all said and done, once the dust on the field settles, and we are packing up at the end of the day, the memories of the day, the people we have met, the experiences we've shared... THAT'S why I do it. That's why I love it. And that's why I will continue to do this until I can no longer walk.

I thank each and every single one of you who have made such an impact in my life and continue to do so through this wonderful sport we love.

That nelspot never needs lube, shoots 2,000 ball per second, never needs reloaded, doesn't require an air source and when the paintball hits somebody the result is the same as if Chuck Norris round house kicked them.
He nick named the gun Reggie.
