Those who criticize a marker just because of who makes it are just as ignorant as the kid who will only shoot what costs the most or what willl make them look coolest/agg. This is especially true for those who open their all-knowing pie hole and spout off about a gun they have never seen/held/fired or taken apart. Sheep is what you are. Shoot whatever works and you can afford.

First of all, I sell paintball equipment for a living. I honestly don't care who sues who... customer demand and what items sell consistently is what puts food on my and other paintball retailer's tables. There's tons of gear I love that I won't stock because it doesn't move. There's items I loathe that we stock because they sell like crazy. That's business. My take on the SP-1... I have one (own 15 other markers) and played with it quite a few times. So far I'm quite happy with it, it is low cost and works. Lately I've used an anti-siphoned 20oz instead of the usual 68/4500 on it. At the last big game I handed it off to my wife (who loves to sit in the back and shoot shoot shoot) while I went off-field to put a new battery in her 'gun and fill her tank. When I came back she had shot it so much that the entire tank valve, hose, ASA and reg was frosted over. We switched 'guns and the SP-1 never shut down or visibly lost velocity (no chrony on hand but still shooting across the field and breaking) when a blowback would be sputtering. All I've used on it is a 12vt Tripod Revvy and haven't chopped yet (have felt the bolt stop on a ball) nor had any barrel breaks in the stock barrel and a .689 LAPCO Big Shot. So far I've put 2 cases through it, its slower ROF curbs the paint consumption. Its not the ultimate 'gun by any stretch but it does work and work well. I also know several fields using Vibes for rentals and they have been very happy with them as well. Smart Parts made a decent entry level marker with the intention that a first-time marker buyer who gets one stays within the SP family. Sales were very slow at first and now in the last month or so the Vibe and SP-1 sales have really taken off. Looks like the product is a success. Love SP or hate them, that's the facts. I don't like all of SP's products but some are quite good.

I'm with Lettuce head actually. Reviewing one for RECON, and in addition to being a nice shooting marker with plenty of nice features and easy maintentance (especially nice features for the price), I could talk louder than this thing when it's shooting. It's ridiculously quiet. Was firing long streaks of full auto (albeit at the 11bps), and there was no dropoff. Honestly, I think it may be what the entry level market needed. An affordable electro with capped ROF. Kiddies can shoot plenty, without much danger of overshooting. (ok, I'd prefer the classic mag take that spot.. but that's another story) I don't know that this will make people put aside their SP prejudices, but it's a nice marker, objectively.

Agreed. On top of my 2 Tiberius markers and others I will be picking one up just for the back up factor. From what I have seen on the field, this marker is user friendly, reliable, and affordable. Sure you may not like SP business practices, but I don't buy markers based on business practices. Call me selfish but I think of my own needs and not some poor company who got ripped. It's interesting though to see the conclusions that alot of players jumped to early on during this markers release, based only on the idea that SP rips all their designs off. Maybe they do... I don't pass judgment, but it seems alot of people did and now some of them are starting to see that this marker isn't half bad. It does look like a T9 though |

I refuse to buy or use anything Smart Parts because of their business practices and I don't like the direction they are pushing paintball to. And really, I don't care how good it shoots. I wouldn't care if it shot better then any gun in the world. My money not going into their pockets is more important then the benefits of owning one of their products. Let me ask you this- if a company made a marker you really liked, but their profits funded a radical religious group with known links to terror, would you still buy the marker? If you don't, are you "ignorant"? Quote:

I'm not pro SP, just pro me. You don't understand. I donate to alot of charity and participate in fundraising events for charity. This has nothing to do with what type of person I am. It's about buying a quality product regardless of who makes it. If SP was killing babies and feeding the rich with them, then it would be a different story. A design should be patented and protected accordingly. If SP steals that design and produces a marker wit questionable similarities to the design, then the offended company should take legal action. But that's a whole other arguement. What I'm saying is... What gives someone the right to tell me what type of person I am because of who I buy my product from? |
