Haven't done much actual playing with the SP-1 so who knows how it's going to hold up in the field, but as for build quality and feel, it has really caught a lot of unwarranted flack. I have a hard time believing that anyone could handle this marker and say with a straight face that it feels "plasticky". And of course the look is a matter of taste, but it feels and looks very SMGish, which works well for the intended use of these for our field. We'll be putting 4-6 of these through a season of hell, if they prove as reliable as SP says, then this might very well be the new default marker for our "tactical" branch. It'd be nice to have the luxury of selecting our products based on the business practices of the companies behind the products, but that's not a realistic proposition for us. If these hold up to our tests, it's the product for other companies to beat.

After reading this it makes me wonder how many people in this topic know what in the hell they are talking about.

I wasnt impressed with it when I first saw this. But I recently picked one up in a trade. I like it the feel, the looks are growing on me. I just found out with alittle bit or work I can change out the feedneck. I have aired it up and shot some air through it but havent put any balls through it. A buddy of mine said it shot pretty good with the stock barrel. I have a freak kit for mine so I am sure it will be fine.

It really is growing on me. And that is alot to say since I have been playing pump for many years now. The last electronic gun I had that I liked was the '99 shocker 4x4.

Honestly I dont care who smart parts sued, nor their business practices. That has nothing to do with the quality of the marker. Just remember WGP sued someone (action markers I think....well I cant remember so i will look it up when I am done with this).

So far the SP1 seems pretty well made. The fact that it will run on co2 and not freeze up or mess with the electronics is great. There is an adaptor piece to put on the back so you can use the 98 stocks. I will admit I was kind of skeptical at first. Played at a local field the other week and this older guy had one. I was pretty impressed with it. I couldnt even tell you how many times he came within a 1" of hitting me, and that was with the stock barrel and cheap paint. It was shooting better than my halfblock sniper with a freak kit.

A lot of the comments in this thread were made long before the SP-1 was even released. Look at the context of the discussion at the begining and you'll see that it was a lot of supposition and attempts to predict what it might be like. The thread came to the surface after a long time(5 months) in the graveyard after a new member came and went with a single post that ranted about the members here based on comments they made speculating about a marker that had not been released yet.

As far as the SP products threads and lawsuit tirades, unfortunately they go together like peanut butter and jelly. Whether it's right or wrong it's just the way it is.

That's just it I figured people on here would be less like the people on pbnation and actually base their opinion on experience rather than their own stupidity.

I find it odd a new guy would be critisizing MCB members' Experience.

Most of these guys recall when 150$ was a STEAL for a new stockclass gun. when paint was 100+ a case, and when a VM cost 350$. So take it for what it is: A bunch of seasoned, crotchety players saying 'Those durn kids and their 150$ electros!'

I'll draw a parallel to furry here, before I go: Furries will accept any Weirdness, or downright disturbing behavior, And when somebody speaks out and -Says- it's disturbing, They're flamed into oblivion.
To tell the truth, I'm glad MCB Errs on the side of 'Crap Until Proven Otherwise'. 'Course, I wholeheartedly belive that most of the world IS Crap Until Proven Otherwise.

Perhaps, but it sort of depends on the basis for calling it crap. The knee-jerk reaction in this case was "lol Smart Parts crap", and that's kind of lame. You may dislike the business practices of the company, but when you let that influence your attitude towards the actual product, then that's hardly very constructive. We've even had people complain about the supposed plastic feel of the gun, and that's really a bunch of crap.

Maybe you need to go back and take a look. Some people posting on this topic alone has joined after I did. Not only that I have been playing for 12years now, who gives a rats behind if their mcarterbrown posting has been going on longer than mine. It is one thing to say I THINK or I BELIEVE it will be crap. But when you get stuff like that is a crappy version of an ion which was a crappy version of a epihany which is a crappy version of the shocker which makes the sp-1 the crappiest, is on the borderline of being a short bus comment.

I will be honest when I say that after reading alot of the post on here I wouldnt call a handful of those guys "experienced" especially when they only see one picture and make their assumptions.

I usually don't get involved with SP discussions because I don't own anything of theirs and I have never used anything of theirs. But this particular topic caught my eye as yesterday when playing with some friends at our outlaw field a new player had showed up with an SP-1. I talked to him for quite a while about his gun. He was running an agitated hopper not even force fed on full auto at times, mostly semi during the day. I was surprised when at the end of our day he hadn't chopped a ball. Now I don't own any electro's period. But for him to use that much paint without a break seemed pretty good. As for durablility it would seem quite good as well, you see this gentleman took a little swim in the pond at the centre of our field quite by accident but in he went anyways. His marker kept right on firing when he pulled himself out of the muck.

I own and use a SP1 and I shoot it now more often than my NXT shocker. I love it. The knee jerk reactions you have seen here are mostly anti fan boys who have lost the objectivity they were once beholden to.
