I have a pair of "CLC" insulated waterproof gloves I got at GRAINGER that I use for my daily commute to work via bicycle. They keep my old tired fingers very warm and dry. Last year's coldest day was -14F windchill, they handled that without a problem. They also have a handy terrycloth part on the back of the thumb for wiping away snot.

They aren't too thick, and dexterity is good.

I'm a big fan of the military wool glove liners. I can still pick up nails and hammer them in.

Keep an eye out for Biathlon/cross-country gloves.
You get the snot rag and they're made for cold. They make em with index in its own finger part and the other 3 are together ( trigger finger ).
40-60$ but man are they worth it!

Ps: is there a word to describe a finger pocket in a glove?

I like shooting gloves with thinsulate in them. I have a pair and they are dexterous enough to load .22 magazines and still warm enough to keep the bite out.
