Custom Bodied Comp Showed Up At My Door

Well, the dust black Carter comp that was on here recently made it's way to my place and I thought I'd share with all of you. Traded him an angel a4 fly with egg loader for it.

I sent an email to Carter Machine to get the details on this one and this is the response I got....

QUOTE

Hi Brian,

Congratulations on your new Comp! Though it’s hard to tell for sure in the picture, Earon thinks this Comp has a newer-style (shorter) rat attack (the 12-gram holder) which we started in the last 12 months. It also has a double-swing frame (which we just stopped selling a few months ago), so this Comp was probably made and sold by us during early 2007, possibly late 2006. This Comp is unusual and quite special because it’s got the customized RTR tactical milling on the horizontal feed (which Earon makes for Rodney of RTR in Massachusetts). RTR is short for Remember the Ronin and you can find Rodney at Remember the Ronin - Online Paintball Store. We probably sold this marker initially directly to Rodney, as the RTR tactical horizontal feed is not something we normally sell to other customers (though I think we did once, just can’t remember who).

Should have mentioned, this is probably one of the last “standard” Comps from Earon. He only makes Mini-Comps now, and BBA only; yours is VAA not BBA. This Comp is a type that could easily be convertable back-and-forth to gravity feed. You should be getting at least 40 shots per 12-gram. Oh, and you should be able to run this Comp off a tank too. Earon could advise you on that and on what type of regulator works best if you like.

If you could supply the name of the initial buyer, I could find the initial purchase date for you to see when the one-year warranty expires.

If by chance you have a one-piece barrel (no insert) then we’re wrong and this is older, probably very early 2006. If you have an insert-style barrel and only have one of the inserts, we can sell you the other insert too $50 alone, $37.50 when purchased with a new marker same color).

There’s no way this Comp is older than October of 2005 which is when Earon started Carter Machine back up (after retiring from Dye), because the Dye-era Comps don’t have this style of engraving “Carter Comp” on the snub. In fact, again, it’s hard to tell for sure from the photo, but I think this is the fatter engraving style that we started in Spring of 2006.

Hope that helps.

Best Regards,

J Lauren Walden Carter

PS If you need any help with learning how to adjust the marker let me know your cell number and I’ll have Earon call you. J

Well as you will see in the pics the barrel does have an insert....I think I made out pretty well..an angel package that was worth about 325 for this...

Also, why didn't anyone else on here try to jump at this marker? The kid had it on here for a while and I found it surprising that no one else jumped at it.

Well he *was* asking around $800 for it, wasn't he?

$600 or Angels in trade is what he wanted. I know there had to be nicer angels out there than the one I gave him.

I liked it, but have something else from carter coming and am not a fan of the banana trigger. I also have a comp already, and as nice as it is not to have two holes on the side of your gun for some reason I always found the buzzard stroke preferable.

The guy didn't really know what he had, that was for sure. Aluminum bodied carters aren't exactly run of the mill. The first aluminum bodied comps were specially done for Steve Wann from the Blowfish and one more. I remember seeing them selling for over 800. This is the only one I've seen since then save the mini-comps.

I'm curious how she feels in your hand. My comp is SS barrel and snub all and the mini comps I have handled are back bottle. Does the balance compare to a phantom?

Congrats on the snag. Make sure to get some good use out of it.

It does feel like a phantom though with the larger trigger it gives less room for my large hands. I definately prefer the older slide frames, way more comfortable. I have a Buzzard on the way as well, have owned 2 Buzzards in the past and am pretty sure i still prefer the Buzzard so I may throw this one up on ebay to pay for my Redux, just not sure yet...

Who knows what he had into ($$$) the comp?

I was told he was given the Comp as a gift. I spoke with him on the phone before we did the trade, sounded very young, but extremely polite. I asked lots of questions, but he just didn't really know anything about what he had and had never played stock class.

At least it's gone to someone who will appreciate it.

I have to agree about the "banana" trigger. I was on top of the world when I won the RTR Buzzard last year, but I never got a feel for that 1.5 hinge frame. I emailed Carter Machine and the price for a new frame was $125 plus annodizing, tax and shipping of the entire gun down to them and back to me. I figured I'd send it to someone who would be fine with the frame, and traded it for a beautiful KP-2 with extras. I intend on replacing it someday, probably with an older Comp - one with a normal trigger.
