| Retro grouch Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Lynn, Ma | HP IIRC annealing starts at 500 but the gun would have to be in the oven for over 10 hrs. Dogma and Rhygin use to heat treat and anneal in an old pizza oven a bakery had in their building. The heat treat was post welding and cold setting to ensure the frame was it's strongest. The annealing was done so the chain stays could be form into shape as needed, Once the AL got the annealing treatment you had a short window to work with it before stressing the Al too much. ( if it got cold you had to bring it back up to temp)

This is just ridiculous though but also somehow cool (NO, I am not becoming an agglet!) What would happen if I'd put My PGP2k1 (It's black and no paint on tip) and took out everything in side except the body, what would happen since it's brass?

Try it and find out. Depending on the result we will then proceed to laugh at you or give you mad props.

| Lord humungus the Mod | At 500 degrees you would end up with 3 separate tubes and a puddle of solder. -Jake

| Lord humungus the Mod | LOL...what ever floats the boat. I would love to see someone solder that valve nutsert back in without the jig though. Also, Aluminum can begin annealing at temps as low as 250 degrees with most comercial alloys needing around 650. Now assuming they are allowing the guns to slowly cool back to room temperature they'll be fine. If they are qeunching them or allowing them to cool qiuckly there is a good chance they'll warp something. All they are doing is "heat bleaching" the Dye out of the anodized layer. Just like when you leave a plastic chair or something outside for a long period of time. -Jake
