I just bought a Savenelli signature pipe (the new ones are 600+) that's old and hardly used. Some guy bought it, smoked straight virginia in it once or twice, then left it in his huge collection to collect dust. I got it for a great deal, I appreciate that guy.

I had a kp2 that I palmerized and it was getting little use as I had already found a gun I love. So I sold it. Sometimes I regret it but then I think of how I only really used it for the pump v. semi game and a few others. If I had it again... wouldn't use it really. So I found someone who knew someone who would use it all the time. He does, and it makes me happy to see him slinging it often. He loves that gun proberly almost as much as I love my pistol.

If I lost an arm or some such though I'd never give up my pistol, even though I wouldn't be able to use it and it would collect dust. Yes it would proberly be someones dream marker or whatnot. From a collectors standpoint it's the first semi-auto k-frame built. I like it too much though. I also keep my first gun ever and a model 98 both of which are never used.

I can see why someone would want a room of 28 kps or whatever. I'll bet there is something slightly diffrent about each one of those kp's which makes it special. Or maybe not.

One thing I love is opening a box of cigars I just bought and every single one looks deliciously the same. I've bought boxes at a time when I would have much more perfered to mix and match 20 for the same discount (total plug lol) just for that experience. So I can understand if someone wants 20 or so of the same thing hanging on their wall if they love them so much.

Don't tell me you don't get a little bit of awe when you see a bunch of kp's or whatever all lined up in prestine condition. I do.

Oh cmon. There are those of us "whores" who do much more good than harm. I've bought and sold many a gun but always in the process they've left my hands in much better shape than they arrived. I've dug up tons of rare guns and several in the last few months that I've actually had to put back together from a box of parts. Many times I have had to dig quite a bit to find missing / replacement parts and pieces. I'll admit that the rare finds I generally try to get to the folks who appreciate it and take care of it (and hopefully actually use it). In the end, I generally make *something* but honestly most times it's a wash or a reasonable "hourly rate" for the work involved.

I dunno.. maybe I'm not a true whore by the common definition.

i think everyone is free to spend their money how they please; if they buy something, it's up to them if they decide to use it, display it, or through it in a box- sad, at times, but true.

i guess i'm one of the "old" guys preventing them kiddies from getting their hands on vintage/rare/classic pieces; a couple thoughts on that:

1) if the little agglets want to spend $1700 on and SLR8 instead of a couple hundred on a nice piece of brass, that's their position;

2) a couple of my markers weren't obtainable when i was younger- maybe it's a cylical phenomenom and the younger generation needs to deal with it; perhaps when they're my/our age they'll lust after a pristine DM6 or NXT Shocker (or not); when i was 15 my friends RTP Viper was the coolest marker around- now that same marker resides in my gun vault and makes it to the field at least once a month... futhermore, the Vipers were, and still are, such fine markers that i own two of them, and will gladly buy however many more come my way; much the same could be said of my LAPCOs

as far as hording.... well, when i see something i want, if possible, i buy it. in my own personal experience, i've found that several of the markers/gear i've purchased has either turned out to be a good investment, or a safe place to have some money sit for a while- they've sold for what i purchased them for.
in terms of my Vipers and KP3, i know that they'll most likely always command a high price... my "retirement" fund lol; also, i feel the need to hoard when i come upon a good quantity of rare/NOS/valuable parts- hence my recent acquisition of 9 LAPCO power tubes, original cup seals, body and frame screws, spring spacers, etc...
