Group is Baofeng Uncensored on fb.

There are other decent groups but most are filled with people that are of the mind you can't turn one on without a license.

Also, for those of us interest3d, which uv 5r? There are a couple of options on amazon. The 27$, 34$ or 65$ one?

Thanks

I got the one that's listed as the "Amazon Choice" but, I didn't get mine there. The listings with "V2+" 3rd Gen", etc can be a little misleading as they aren't often technically UV-5Rs (aside from the ones with difference color schemes) and often have different compatibilities (for batteries, mics, antenna, etc). Also, you don't need any that go to 8W unless you plan on setting up a stationary wired antenna (i.e. on a vehicle top, or in your house) for long range comms.

I got my radio at BuyTwoWayRadios.com for $29, and I paid an extra $10 to be sure my radio came with the latest firmware.

I believe that the UV-5R is very popular because it's a good performing radio at a great price and, this brings in a lot of actual HAMs who are on a budget.
