My Works cocker need timing help.

I just picked up a Works Cocker and am having some trouble. I am pinching balls quite often because the bolt is not clearing the chamber fast enough. It looks like the ram moves very quickly until the last 1/8th's inch and then slows down. This leads to the marker feeding most of the time - but pinching a ball every 10 shots or so because only 1/3rd of the ball is getting into the chamber.

I am not short stroking it. The Works cocker is probably 2002 - 2003 era but has sat in a box since the player won it in a tournament. It was NIB but 3 to 4 years old. It could be that the ram o-rings are too old.

However, it could be that I simply need to change something in the timing - but I don't know what.

Any help?

There are three things I can think of:

1) Adjust the length of the nut on the cocking rod. This is the part that goes in the lower tube, through the velocity adjuster, and connects to the hammer. Loosen the little allen screw on the very end of the shaft, and then back out the knob on the cocking rod a little bit. Then re-tighten the allen screw that keeps it in place. This will adjust how far back the bolt comes. You should barely be able to see the tip of the bolt when the marker is aired up and you hold the trigger back.

2) The ram needs to be replaced (or at least swapped out to see if that's the problem). Sometimes, the seals in the ram get misaligned or wear out and can cause strange leaks or drops in performance. You can disassemble the ram and attempt to clean everything out, but sometimes, it's effective to just get another ram.

3) Far less likely, adjust the 3-way. If the pressure drops off at the very last instant, you may have pulled the 3-way just enough to actuate the automation system, but not enough so that it keeps the bolt back rigidly. This is not a real plausible scenario, and will probably lead to trouble, so don't mess around too much.

If you need more help, I do Autococker repair and timing, so email me at SpinDoctor1515@hotmail.com and I can most likely fix your problems!

CCM/Works guns are set up with very low pressure pneumatics,so it will pinch paint instead of chopping, one thing Spindoctor forgot is that maybe your LPR is set too low,it works fine until it comes in contact with the hammer to cock it but doesnt have enough pressure to compress the spring while cocking it.

TF,
Is there a little tube looking thing that is about 1/4" to 3/8" diameter, that has two little clear hoses going to it, attached to the front of the pump rod? If so, that is your problem. Get rid of that thang and put you a nice big delrin peice that fits the hand better up there. That little bitty part is just too hard to grip dude.

I don't think it is the LPR. I gave it a 1/2 turn yesterday and it was no better.

I will, however, give the 3 way a small adjustment. I think that makes the most sense.

first i would unscrew the back block a few threads before i messed with the 3 way, the 3 way dosent care how far the bolt moves or control the force put on it.

Exactly. The switch is only useful for adjusting where in the pull the pneumatics actuate(you might not be fully opening the air passage/short stroking it, but I would mess with it last).

I would guess that either your back block is just barely shorter than it needs to be, or the cocking rod is way out of adjustment.

Try the back block, I bet the problem solves itself.

If you really must mess with the switch, make it actuate a hair earlier, since it might be that you're just accidentally short stroking it(yeah, like a mere mortal) every now and again. From the frequency of the problem your having, that could be the case. But try the other goodies first.
