Half/mid blocking

ok so i really want to half block a cocker of mine, but i dont want to pay to have someone do it, so what i want to know is what all is involved in half/mid blocking

i know you need to well half the body, and it needs a slotted hammer(how hard is it to slot a hammer and whats the slotting for) shorten the bolt(could you just make a bolt shorter) , make a sled shorten the cocking rod, uhh need a pin to go through bolt( does that pin connect to the slotted hammer?)

well i think thats everything, all my questions are in parentheses, Sorry if its hard to read, bare with me i am tired, but i think yall guys know what i am talking about

You can find most of your answers over at HalfCocker.com, but a quick sum up to the question I definitely know the answer to: The pin goes through the bolt down thru the slot in the upper surface of the lower tube, and when pushed backwards by the ram on the first half of the trigger stroke, uses the slot in the hammer to push it back to cock it. Basically the whole point of halfblocking (besides getting rid of a large chunk of metal out of the upper tube) is to get rid of the backblock and cocking rod. The slot in the hammer and the pin through the bolt replace the connection that the backblock used to provide.

Clear as mud?

And you have to slot the upper part of the bottom tube of your body so the pin can pass through and engage the hammer. My suggestion is to have it done and buy a kit. Kits are super cheap on ebay, and there are plenty of people who will do the job for ~$40 with no re-ano. If you are set on doing it yourself, good luck, and look at white wolf's page for dimensions for your cuts!
