i played airsoft and i think i had fun(i think)

well i played my first real game of airsoft yesterday, and although i think i had fun i cant help but feel like being back in school shooting saliva soaked paper through a straw. it was much cheaper than paintball and less time consuming reloads and such, but the rush is not there. i got hit a few times and it was like "wow that was it huh"? i feel almost like iv cheated on my cocker (forget my shocker shes a slut i use when feeling dirty). one thing i was really not to fond of was, a buddy of mine got a good shot on me from the side which went right through a vent hole in my pb mask and hit me in the fkn lip and bounced off my teeth. kind of painful. ill bring my rant to a close by saying, i think its a good time if your broke (paintballs, air, etc...) but i dont like the "hype". or having to wait for a feild because of a never ending airsoft game where everyone thinks they are s.e.a.l.s its ok though i know one day they to will find paintball and all will be well. i apologize to any airsoft people if ive upset you, but seriously sherry....c mon.

Brother where, have you gone to?
I swear, I never thought I could
I see so many times
They told me to shoot straight
Don't pull the trigger, squeeze
That will insure a kill

I took a small handful of bb's to the teeth, lips and tongue once. I was playing in a paintball mask with the lower part removed. I pulled an "ambush" on some guys walking down a trail and, forgetting about the additional range of .2 gram bb's, I waited until they were too close and also failed to eliminate all of the players.

The return fire (mostly over the shoulders of the guys I did get) got me in the mouth and I thought "OUCH!... that's gonna leave a few marks." About a 1/2 hour later, I was at my car and remembered to check my "welts". They no longer hurt or even ached and when I looked in the mirror and there was no evidence whatsoever that I had been shot there.

I am guessing that the range was probably around 20 feet or so, maybe less, and the bb's were probably traveling between 320 and 375-400fps.

By comparison, when I take a paintball in the lip (I wear rubbery JT Flex IZE's to accomodate my woodstocked guns) I can feel a little egg there in my lip for about two weeks after the impact.

I concur on the less mess, lower cost of the game and I also agree that it lacks something that paintball brings to the table.

I guess I have "outgrown" my need to take on the trappings of the military and/or "play guns" like I did when I was a teenager. All the extra, relatively useless gear that folks carry on to an airsoft field (from empty ammo carriers stuffed with paper to fake body armor filled with sand to simulate the weight of the real mcCoy) all seems pretty stupid to me.

Give me the pain of paintball and the excitement that that engenders or I guess I would prefer to go for a walk in the woods or watch the History Channel or something.

On a side note, I think that even a semi-experienced paintballer is generally undermatched by typical airsoft play. Even a lumbering herd like myself wowed the airsofters with my relative aggressiveness and willingness to "expose" myself to fire and flank, etc. My teammates would be all "stacked" up like SWAT guys behind barricades waiting for something to happen and I would get bored and start running around to draw fire or charging down their version of a tape line. They would look at me like I was risking death or severe injury and as someone who had clearly lost their mind.

All the military trappings of airsoft definitely get in the way of a good paintball-style game, imho.

And it should definitely hurt more.

i could not agree more with that last part man. i was like a champ playing airsoft, but had it been pb and with my teammates i would have been an average joe. and as far as the lack of pain and evidence of being shot.......its just not for me haha

yeah, I bought an airsoft gun just for practice for paintball.. cheaper, and about the same accuracy and range and sort of regret it, but ah well...

I bought a nice airsoft gun to play around my house. I have 2 acres of woods now that I own.

My wife doesn't want the house, cars, trees, shed.... all painted up, and neither do I.

Lets me play around the house, cheaper than paintball, and just as fun with the group I play with.

I play paintball 4 to 1 over airsoft when I'm out. And yes, I feel like a freaking god when I play airsoft, because I don't use the traditional, waste your time, look good while executing it, military tactics. I just make things happen.

I too have run right past several guys all "stacked" or broken "wedge" formation. They can't believe the sick angles I get or the surprise I bring to the other team with my in your face play.

the only real time I played airsoft, I got bored. I ended up teaching the airsofters center-flag speedball, then things got relatively interesting.

give me paintball any day of the week over that stuff.

I've played also. I actually had some fun playing but that was because 1) I hadn't played paintball in six months and I was itching to shoot at something, and 2) I didn't play with any of the militaristic regulars just a bunch of drunk fraternity brothers of mine.

To me it looks too serious. Again, add comments about The Green Boys (Major Pain). I don't like being all serious- I have to deal with that enough during the "reality" part of my life too. Plus I like the bright or wicked shiny paintball guns better than the super realistic airsoft ones.

I also found out that no matter how clean you are, no matter how much you vacuum, if you bring ONE closed container of air soft BBs in the house you will be finding BBs in the strangest places until you actually move to a different home. That part I don't really entirely understand, but I'm not going to experiment upon since I have an airsoft free home.
