| Electro's and the lack of self control I am going to hop up on my soapbox here for a moment and discuss something that I find somewhat "funny" ? troublesome to me? I am not sure how to express it, but allow me to explain. I keep seeing all these posts where people talk about how they would own electro marker (insert type) but they would sling too much paint. That is why I still use my (insert mech marker). Now the last time I checked, every electronic marker on the market today has, in addition to a ramping or "turbo" mode if you will, semi built in as part of the programming. Now on many we will also find burst mode, and breakout and all this jazzy bells and whistle kind of thing, but my focus is on the fact that they do, indeed come with semi. Now when in true semi mode, unless you alter programming to set debounce in a way it is not intended (theoretically) to be set, and also have the trigger set in such a way as not to induce bounce, these electronic markers will indeed fire one ball for every pull of the trigger. So, if the marker is set up this way and we can pull one ball per trigger pull, just like we can on any mech marker out there, with the added bonus of lighter trigger pull, and in most cases anti chop eyes.....I dunno. I just can't understand the argument anymore. I used to feel that way too. If I had an electro, I HAD to walk the trigger, I HAD to use a ramping mode and blast as much paint as possible. Now I have learned to just pull it one at a time, to use the technology to my advantage. I can still use a revi. I haven't looked at my squeegie in months of play.....and ya know what? I can still walk on the field with 500-1000 balls, using my G7 and play all day. /soapbox |

| Village Idiot | I had a Fusion, I don't know what it was about it but if I pulled the trigger I couldn't do it just once, I tried, off the field I could do it in a game if I shot it was at least 5 shots. I don't know why. Now my electro is a Viking, great gun, can shoot as fast if not faster than the Fusion, but I can and often do shoot one or two balls at someone. Maybe, and this is just a thought, but maybe it's like a sports car. You have all these beautiful old restored mustangs and corvetts around and yeah you can make them sream but it's just as nice to take a nice drive in them. The newer ones aren't the same you drive it hard, put it away wet and some day someone will find it all beat to hell, restore it or take parts to restore another one for that nice drive.

| the MilD MOD | I agree with the original poster in that is entirely possible to play with an electro and limit your paint use/shots taken. But what's the point of owning the screaming electro? I briefly had an old Shoebox Shocker Turbo. Great gun, lots of fun. One of the first things I did was put it in Turbo mode and leave it there. I play mostly pump and a little mech semi (when I do play, which is rare). They do what they do well, so why not let the electro do what it does well? Edit: I should point out that I think all this super high ROF ruins the game in high concentrations. I'd prefer it if everyone still played pump. Pump games are where the most fun is at. |

| Depends on my mood and where playing..... Brush I have to shoot through...more paint is used.... Bunkers or hard surfaces...then it just a game of snap shooting and timing.

| I am not a big fan of electros, but I agree with punkncat. There isn't anything that states you have to go all out and cover someone with paint. I would love to play just one game in the early 90's or late 80's. The ever elusive all pump game just seems so appealing. Especially after my last outing. When I got eliminated, it never was just 1 or 2 balls, but around 5. Lame. |

| I Am The Admin | I love my electro.. and I don't fire much paint. I don't walk the trigger... and only use one finger to fire still. Heck, at LoneGoose's winter game, I used a Threshold and played hopper ball. It seems to me that it depends on who you are playing against. If the other side is just slinging paint... You tend to sling back. On the other hand, if I'm playing against new people, I tend to just take a shot every few seconds.... Even when I know a volley could just take someone out, I'll take pot shots. It's part being cocky, and part wanting to make sure that new player has fun too. Honestly, I can shoot just as much paint with my pump and auto-trigger. It's all on who you play against, and personal self control.

| I play hopper ball with my electro's all the time. I just like them so I use them. IMHO saying an electro makes you use too much paint is like saying a car with power steering makes you turn too many corners.

| Want to slow down how much paint you use with the electro? Put a 10 rd horizontal feed on it, and play like that! If that's too much of a brain buster, use a sport shot hopper, winchester ammo box, or one of those little brass eagles. I think that once you have played for a couple of years, you get tired of the bps race, and realize it's mostly a marketing scheme. Then you start puting self-imposed limitations on to focus on building skills: open class pump, then horizontal feed, then stock-class, using a pgp or splatmaster, etc. But then sometimes it's fun to have a fast new electro...just for kicks... (I would love to have a new ego, or NXT Shocker, but realistically, I wouldn't use it more than once or twice a year, and I really can't justify that expense). Besides, as mentioned earlier, I think the pace of pump play is just better. It's the way the game was meant to be played. When you have some newbies, playing hopperball evens it out pretty well too.

| Personally, I think that the shooting modes on an electro are like speed limits: sure, you can go slower, but most people don't and some go even faster. Or like taking a Ferrari and dropping an inline-4 to power it. Personally, I'd never get another electro - partly because they don't interest me, partly because I just don't play in a manner where even the ability to shoot a ton more paint is necessary. I'm happy with my 6-7 bps semi.
