Are you close enough that you could take a camera with you and get some pictures if there's any doubt in the minds of mom and dad? | |

Anyway, call the cops. You don't need a hassle and you're not paid to serve the public. You try and detain, someone could get injured and I dont mean just the kids. The whole stealing markers from idiots plan isn't the worst thing that can happen, but using a light as described is impersonating an officer, and doing that to chase down some kids smart enough to use the cops to get their stuff back and suddenly you're a nutjob....... not worth it for a spyder , shot in the nuts, nor a holding cell.

leave the going through the neighborhood to the cops, at best you'll get rude responses from parents, at worst you'll get threatened or have the cops called on YOU, which will often result in the local pd not taking your complaints seriously, just like the old lady who constantly calls the cops about the "hoodlums" outside of her house. next time make sure you've got a cell phone and the nuber to the local pd, wouldn't hurt to bring a digital camera so you can take photos of it if the cops don't get there in time. generally when cops have proof of something dangerous going on they've pretty much got to follow up on it, and if you can get a half decent face shot of one of them, well...that makes things a lot easier for the cops. and one kid's all they'll need, I've never met a little kid who won't rat out every one of his friends in a heartbeat when a cop sits him down for a talk. besides, this is for the good of these little idiots as well, they'll be in much more trouble when they manage to injure someone else, lord help them if they blind someone. or the real possibility of someone who returns fire, with a real gun. seems a shame to lose a few lives because they're young and stupid, and possibly ignorant of the real dangers in their hands.

Many states have shield laws regarding said arrest too. Contacting LEO now will generate a report and a beat notice for the officer covering that area, and that is ok for the future. You should have called then and provided descriptors, location, direction of flight, etc...at that time.

| Cutthroat Connoisseur | I couldn't reach the Sheriff's via their regular number so I emailed them at the address they listed on their website. I gave an account of the incident and received a response telling me that the information had been passed on to their patrol units. I was instructed to call 911 if another incident occurred. The next time I visit the course I'm going to post a flier on the bulletin board alerting players that if they see, hear or are shot at by children with paintball markers, that they should notify the Sheriff's Dept. immediately by dialing 911. Hopefully I've done my part. |

| Sunstar Paramedics Slave | I think you have done all that you can do at this point. Send B in there, he'll teach those brats a thing or two. Glad to hear you weren't hurt.

| There was that case of 3 people in a car (in Pittsburgh) who shot at kids in a park with paintballs, and were greeted in turn by actual gunfire from someone in the park. the name of the person firing the gun was never released, but they also were not charged with anything. At least in PA, having paintball equipment loaded in your car is a felony, and also in PA (Drum can comment on this) you are allowed to use subsequent force to stop a felony happening to you or your property. Take that one where you (and your legal council) may.
