Too much BS like this.
I have to have someone over 18 whenever I buy a new marker, or 12 grams at walmart(They know me at the local store). But just because a few people under 18 do something doesn't mean that should be outlawed. Besides, how do you even know they are under 18? You realize that, assuming they're driving with a license, they only have 2-3 years of their life where they would be able to do a "Drive by" and be under 18. I've seen Youtube videos of these "drivebys" and it looks like at least a few of these people are over 18.

I agree, this is a horrible thing. But you still don't even know who did this and that they where even under 18.

This really pisses me off. I hate seeing the random splats on roadside signs or whatever. It's just bad for the sport and for business. Putting someone else at risk is a whole new level, like felony level. This isn't too close to me but I'll be handing out some longer than usual safety breifings the next few weeks. I sell paint with orange fill too, I wonder what color the shell was.

Agreed. A scene from "The Patriot" (Gibson version) comes to mind.

I think the paintball industry should be more structured like the SCUBA industry and those wanting to buy a marker need to write a short test to show compentancy. Nothing too difficult, but something that shows that the buyer knows at least a little about paintball and the necessary safety. This would deter a lot of idiots from impulse buying a marker at WalMart and then doing stupid things with it.

Those of us that take the sport more serious, won't have a problem getting certified. It would be a way of policing ourselves instead of expecting the government to do it for us. The SCUBA industry knew at it's onset that if they didn't police themselves, the government would do it for them. We all know how governments tend to over react.

y'know, i'd actually be in favor of that, and I've offered my time and energy at the local shop a few times to do a safety course.

in all that time, i was contacted ONCE. by a concerned parent who asked if i could come by and scare the hell out of their kids so that they wouldn't want to play.

As for needing to be 18, why not? if you are under 18 you can't buy a pellet gun here in Canada (or from my understanding, most places in the states) so why should it be different for paintball? It's technically an air gun and i think that they should be treated like them at Point of Sale.

Yes, i know some of you here are under 18 and would consider this unfair, but if you can't legally buy a BB gun, you should not be allowed to buy a paintball gun. Take note of the word 'Buy'. Not make it illegal to possess one under the age of 18, but just to buy it.

From the legal standpoint, there are two or three advantages.

1. At 18 you are legally liable as an adult for your own actions.

2. There is a level of seller's responsability introduced, to the point where the can be held liable for selling to a minor. Making them go the extra distance to make sure they don't fall into the wrong hands

3. Charged as an Adult. 'nuff said

I agree you should be 18 to buy guns and such, which is the current law, but I don't agree that you should have to be 18 to buy paintballs. It's too much of a hassle to get your parents to come or anything if your under 18 but of driving age, for instance. Besides, do you know how easy it is to get an 18 year old to buy you something?

I agree that they should be charged as an adult(unless theyr're like 8 and they have no idea what they're doing).

Heck.. want an ounce of prevention? Give the parents of them the same punishment.

Message -You screw up and let your kid get to the point where they shoot an infant with anything, you get flogged too.

Something tells me there might be a smidge more responcibility....
