You have got to be kidding me.

Are you seriously saying that you can not see the difference between sitting in a car in a CVS parking lot with no paintball guns in sight, and sitting in someone's backyard surrounded by a bunch of people with loaded paintball guns, probably without BBDs being used?

Do you think MAYBE, just POSSIBLY, in one of those situations there might be a reasonable expectation that a paintball gun you can see might discharge accidentally, and in the other case there's no reasonable expectation of a paintball flying through the air at you out of seemingly nowhere?

I'm not advocating people walk through life wearing a paintball mask. But people should wear paintball masks when they're around paintball guns that don't have barrel blocking devices installed, as the chance of a paintball being shot by a paintball gun goes up dramatically when a paintball gun is present.

If someone harms another person with a paintball gun, they're already civilly liable in the event the harm was due to negligence. The last thing we deserve is more blanket regulation based on the practices of the lowest common denominator.
I don't have a problem with a few common sense across the board safety rules. I'd rather see us as as a communit/industry make them than who knows how many different government agencies I each state, province and country. I keep going back to the diving industry. They knew at the onset, that if they didn't create an organization to standardize safety and to police themselves, they knew governments would. Governments tend to come down with a heavy hand (see Australia).

All drivers of cars are--adults, yet we still have rules. We don't buy and drive cars as we see fit. We follow rules. And if we don't follow them, we get penalized.

Not all paintball players are adults though (as we are all aware). I believe most teenagers have enough compentancy to understand safety to play the game, just as most adults do. I do believe there should be a system in place to make sure people owning markers do have some compentancy. We shouldn't just assume that everyone does (teens or adults).

Okay gun safety is always involved regardless if it's a real gun, squirt gun or paintgun.
So that's out of the way. There was no game going on at the time the boy was shot in the eye, so that means a barrel condom was not in use, which means someone didn't read the instructions and someone wasn't supervising properly.
You know alot of people out there think it won't hurt your eye if it's shot, there are stupid people out there that think that.
One of the Sargents I used to work with,10yr old shot out his eye. They were just waiting for their Dad to come out of the house. The cause was an under sized ball rolling out of the chamber made the boy courios. He looked down the barrel and shot out his own eye.
Now a military man who should know better, let a 10 yr old go out with a loaded GUN. He blamed himself for not reading the instructions, not the industry. He also was a week late for my paintball safety class.
Bad part of it all, since he was divorced, he lost visiting privliges of his kids, due to unfit parenting. That was 5 yrs ago,I understand now he has supervised visitation.

Moral of the story, a gun is a gun and stupidity always wins.
Later,
Blackrain

Please click on the link below to sign my two internet petitions.
The first is to get all sharp objects banned, the second is to get all blunt objects banned. This way we can cover all the bases and ensure the safety of the worlds idiots.

We would only cover banned bases that could not be disposed of in some other way.
