Actually shipping prices with UPS just went up a considerable amount. I had a situation come up a week ago where what would have been about $5-6 to ship is now running $10-11.

USPS is still pretty much the same, but their tracking stinks and the do not offer the automatic hundo in insurance.

Given the low price that used items are selling for right now, to expect the seller to eat the shipping fees as well as the cost of getting the items to the post is rediculous. I think too many buyers have gotten used to people giving away gear with the exodus from the game that we have been seeing and have come to expect that buying used does not involve paying shipping. A cost which should be considered.

I agree except for the shipped and paypal'd part. When someone posts one of these numbers:
-buyers pay shipping and fees
-feel free to offer, its OBO

then I think it is okay to say x amount of dollars shipped and paypal'd

Ditto.

Selling used things on the internet is not like selling something in a store. People expect you to budge a little on your price, throw in free shipping or give them a multi-item discount. The haggling is part of the process and can be fun. It's what makes people think they're getting a great deal whether they are or not. Getting someone to knock a few percent off the price makes them feel like a savvy buyer and makes them happy with YOU as a seller and will more than likely lead them back to you for more stuff in the future. If you want to be a hardass and stick to the price you listed then you're not going to move your stuff as quickly and you may end up sacrificing it at a lower price anyway simply to get rid of it.

I always price my stuff higher than my bottom line so I have the ability to accept a reasonable offer or throw in free shipping. It makes people happy and it gets my stuff gone more quickly. It may seem like a stupid game and a waste of time to do that but some people(especially the ones that buy a lot) love to feel like they got a deal and had the upper hand in the transaction. As long as you get what you wanted in the end and they feel like they did well for themselves, who cares how much you sold for vs. the price it was originally listed for? Better to start high and have room to move than to start at where you need to be and get pinched when no one will buy unless you drop a few bucks off or give free shipping.

As far as folks wanting all the high res pictures and asking a million questions, that's simply a product of too many people getting screwed buying "mint", "NIB" or otherwise falsely advertised items that showed up looking like they were drug behind the UPS truck instead of carried in it although the grainy, poorly lit, low res pictures made everything look as good as the seller described. Sometimes you have to be willing to go the extra mile to get a sale but once you have some good feedback people won't ask for those extra pictures and such because they will trust that your description is accurate based on your previous sales.

Actually .... their new tracking system isn't half bad. Have you shipped USPS w/DC lately?

asking if a seller will accept a lower amount for an item is not stupid,
it's called negotiation.
if a seller is unwilling to take less than they have asked for,
they just have to say no i want my posted price.

simple as that.
it's no harm no foul.
provided one person is not badgering you about it.
