I'm going to encourage you as well since you seem to want to play.
However I'll temper this with some slightly different advice. By all means play but pay attention to the pain. It's Nature's way of telling you that you're doing more damage. It's one thing when a person knows what the damage is and that the pain goes with the status quo such as with a fused disc or known bad knee or even arthritis. It's another when the pain is telling you you're adding to the damage that's trying to heal.
So by all means spring for the new Phantom in the color scheme of your choice and gear up. Wear a brace if it'll help support the injured area or just remember to play in such a manner as to not ascerbate the injury... at least for now. Up to a point exercise is generally good for muscular injuries in particular so you'll be helping it along as long as you don't push it into MORE damage. Just play like you're an old guy.... like me...

At least until you heal up.
I tore some back muscles a few months ago by trying to play PB like I was still in my teens. I'm back playing but now I temper my charges and stretch before playing. I don't so much burst forth like a startled grouse anymore as sort of "saunter purposefully". Just "saunter" for now and go back to the bursting forth once you're healed.
