Recommendations for hydro-testing HPA tanks

Hey y'all.

Who has done this recently? Please post your experiences and, if possible, any recommendations you might have for hydro-testing a pair of Crossfire 45/4500 HPA tanks.

I seem to recall that is necessary (or maybe just cheaper) to you pull the regs out of the tanks before you send them in. True?

Also, there is talk of this being something that can be accomplished through or with local fire stations. Any one had any luck with that?

Thanks in advance.

I always just drop mine off at a scuba shop. I don't know if you have those up there in the cold Northeast. IIRC last time I did it it cost $20 per tank and took less than a week.

Fire extinguisher shops are the way to go. They did one of my tanks for $20 and dropped it off free at my dad's work while they were doing some deliveries.

The local welding gas supplier does hydrotesting.
They wound up sending my tank to the fire extinguisher place though. They couldn't get the reg off due to not having the fixture.
I've had 3-4 done without problem.

I've done my tanks through my local scuba shop. But they charge $40 for the hydro. Next time around I'll phone around to a fire extinguisher place. Also if you go to such a place it's highly recomended that you remove the reg first. They don't care about your reg, just the tank.

I used M&H, and my experience was well above average. One of my tanks had a little ding in the clear coat but not into the fibers, and M&H repaired that for no extra charge.
