Or keffiyehs or however you say it. I've been looking for some ideal paintball headwear for years. At first I tried wearing a ball cap backwards, but it it always came off when I removed my mask and did nothing to catch sweat. Then I switched to a bandanna, rambo-style, but it quickly became saturated and getting beaned in the noggin still gave me a headache all Monday in the office. After watching one too many episodes of "Generation Kill" I ordered a Shemagh from Amazon and let me tell you, I have never been so pleased with a piece of paintball clothing. They're versatile, durable, and in this hemisphere, quite menacing. They are not, I should add, dryer-safe. I wear two of them now, one wrapped around the top of my head and the other like a scarf to protect my neck. I tried wearing one in the traditional wrapping style, and aside from getting sideways looks from the field owner I found it was unbearably hot. So, anyone else tried wearing these things? So these are made of yarny stuff? Better than, say, a Ban-Du? And how is how you're wearing it different than the traditional way? Sorry bout all the Q's, just curious.

I use shemaghs as scarves, but for paintball I just tie a t-shirt around my head. Roll it in from the neck in a couple times and tie it around with the sleeves. The knot provides some great support to prevent the goggle strap from sliding down. A guy taught me this trick my very first time paintballing in '95 and I've been doing it ever since. I don't know why I don't see more people doing this. |

The traditional way, as I learned it, is like is illustrated in these pictures. It looks cool if you tie it this way, and one scarf covers your head and neck, but the problem is that it traps a lot of heat in there, especially with a mask on. ![]() Quote:

^ Does Solid Snake roll with you guys? I have a tan one from FullClip. I don't get to play in the woods too much, but they're kind of a trendy accessory in the winter time. So when it was colder I used to wear it as a scarf in public ever now and them. If I had a little bit of pent up aggression I'd wrap it around my face and scream out "Alalalalalalalalalaallllalallaalallaaaaa....! !" (just like that) and nobody would bat an eye. That's just the kind of power you command with a shemagh. |
