Carter too funny really..

" Oh! Natural reaction sorry.. we will call that a hit for the mask"

But as a real world test... awsome. It does debunk alot of the stuff floating around out there.

But remember they are saving money! Lets see they can carry twice as much paint so wouldn't you need to buy twice as much?

There goes the 12 - 15bps limit - those players will be forced to shoot 24 - 30, just to ensure that something breaks on their target (if they can reach them, ftw!).

We were using my modified sniper to shoot the 50 cal. We also could not get a good velocity reading from the handheld chrony we had.It would pick up the 68 no problem but did not want to read the 50.So the reason we did not do a 68 cal test after was 1 it was getting dark and 2 I didn't want to mess with the velocity of my gun until I verified what it was shooting at. Here is the results from a field chrony test I did this morning to see what I was shooting yesterday. We were between 300-310 fps which makes our charts and calculations a good baseline.

So between 300 and 310. Excellent. Good to know our FPS from a "red" chrony too.

Thanks!

it means back players will not be able to break on people since to far way. so in other words got to move up more to be able to break on someone.

So I'm sitting here thinking about it, and well, I'm amazed at how it all worked out.

For the .50 caliber, the drop test bounced paint at 7 feet, but broke at 8 feet. When we ran our FPE program, the program told us that 8 feet gave us a .0213 FPE.

Looking at the FPE to Distance chart, .0213 is rougly around 80 to 90 feet. So anything beyond that, theoretically should not break at 300 FPS.

In the live testing, we were shooting 300 to 310 FPS, and at 100 feet out, we didn't have any breaks, but at 90 feet out, 1 bounce and 3 breaks, so mostly breaks.

Basically the theoretical science matched up to real life perfectly. I'm still amazed by it.

Conclusions:

The basic conclusion is, 50 caliber has a shorter breaking range due to the fact the mass is that much smaller. There is a 30 to 36 foot shorter range than using a .68 caliber ball. That's a big difference!

The .50 caliber paint is very very thick.. I can't see them making it any heavier / thicker. Shell thickness... is the same thickness as the tournament .68 caliber paint, and I can't see them getting much thinner with the shell. If they did, it will eventually just break in the breach of the barrel or break in shipping.

Me Ranting:

Lastly, I'm a bit dismayed by the industry right now. It's far too incestuous. I've heard far too many people call it "impressive", literally... and so much hype on a product. Far too many people willing to sell out for a buck or because they might get something out of it. I'm not singling anyone out... It's just a feeling I've had after reading all the posts on different sites. People, who have influence, anrewilling to be spoon fed the hype and willing to regurgetate it back without thinking or questioning...

Sorry to put is so bluntly, but I'm really disgusted by the way our "industry" has treated this. There were many skeptics, but those high up in the industry that I knew seemed to keep very very quiet. Not wanting to rock a boat... Just.. In.. Case... I suppose. I don't really know their reasons, but I can only guess.

Companies willing to hurry up and jump on the bandwagon, yet they have no idea if it will even work, but were quick to hurry up and put out a press release about their conversion kit.

... Because if our industry doesn't question, doesn't check facts first, and is willing to just give us the latest hyped product... Then there is no hope for our sport.

Part 2 of our 50 caliber paintball tests...

Using the data, we are able to come up with this chart
Chart:

AND, our real world testing confirms this chart to be fairly accurate.
Great testing Carter. That's what people want to see. Not a bunch of equations and 500-lined charts designed to confuse people so you can feel better since you 'know' what it is. You have a very simple chart that tackles the issue at hand, not elaborate and not cluttered. And you have real world video testing, not 'vectors' or 10 minutes of aimless gibberish. Point, shoot, record, report.

As some have mentioned earlier, chronographing would be great for the next video if you do another installment.

Also, some ideas take em if you want em if not you can send em back. I want to be on you. Showing the paint to barrel match, if it's swimming in the barrel or a good fit. Doing 20 chrono shots to show an average. Increase fps to 350 and 400, and see both how the balls react to the increased velocity (such as if they fly straight or corkscrews) and do again the target shooting w/ a body. You can borrow a dead guy, doesn't have to be a living person, tissue is tissue it'll react the same.

But this is on the right path of what needs to be done to show what .50 is and isn't capable of. Congrats on your work thus far and looking forward to what else you'll be testing.

OH! Just had an idea. Do your own ASTM test on a pair of goggles. Jack up the velocity to some increments (350, 400, 450, 500+ fps)and see if the .50 will leave them be, crack them, or break them.

Once I get the GIMilsim FM-.50 gun next week, we'll do accuracy testing.. Sort of like what they did in the video's they put out and see if we can't replicate that.
