Sodium Hydroxide, Lye, Caustic Soda are all the same thing.

there is a de-smutt cleaner available from Caswell that should fix at least some of your issues.
pretty sure that not de-smutting before your anodizing bath was the problem.

what happens if the acid gets in the internals of something. how do you spash anodize?

By internals do you mean actual internals or like the inside of the body? Obviously you take the internals out before anodizing.

But what about splash ano dizing? do you add like a special tape on the plases you don't want anodized?

They can mask it, "Paint" it on, or roll on a transfer pattern. Generalities of the technique are known, but not many specifics.
