50 Caliber - Real World Testing and Review the FM-50

I need to make a video section if I'm going to keep doing these....

Please excuse the slapped togetherness of the video and me doing it in some corner in my basement, but certain folks on other sites kept on saying how you've got to play with it in the "real world" to understand and make a full judgement call on the 50 caliber.

Well... I've done that two weeks in a row now. And here's the video:

I'm shooting the gun a 300 FPS btw.

The FM-50 Gun Review Overview:

Likes:
  • Fun gun
  • Nice Look
  • Great Feel
  • Easy to Shoot
  • Smaller Low Profile hopper holds a ton of paint
  • Easy to open and take apart.

Dislikes:
  • The tool-less pins are far too easy to remove when not gassed up. This caused a major issue for me.
  • Steel braided line takes away from the look.
  • ASA was too tight, needs a major overhaul.
  • Removable elbow is very hard to get on and off.
  • It's .50 caliber only... If this was a .68 caliber gun I could see a market for it. As a .50 caliber only I can't see it breaking too much ground with a $299 MSRP and being mechanical only. It's a hard sell when good electro semis such as the Mini or G3 are selling for that price.
  • Paint is easily moved by the wind
  • Paint is hard to break on targets, even when shooting close.

And the guy you were hitting in the chest isn't bounce prone... he's relatively thin built. Not good on the .50's part.

That's the key part most people will miss I think. He's a thin build... Not wearing a padded jersey, or elbow pads, etc, etc.

And I'm already having a tough time breaking them at a pretty damn close range. On top of that, he called himself out, but I couldn't see where I hit him. I.E., it wasn't obvious to me. He points to his chest, but I don't see anything that stands out like a break either.

I have video of the breaks closeup, and they look like splatter, but I could only fit so much.. and this beast was already 8 minutes long. too long for my tastes to be honest. I try to keep them 5 or 6 minutes at the most.

Good review. The idea of the target consumer is probably pretty close. I can see anyone wo is not contractually obligated to shoot .50 using one at a rec field against .68 and saying "This sucks, I can't hit anyone. Even if I do, it doesn't break." It's one of those things that you don't need to know the cause to decide that the effect doesn't stack up.
